i know for a fact if my child smacked a horse for no reason what so ever i would not be standing there filming it. she looks like she is old enough to know better in my opinion. hopefully she learnt a lesson, a harsh one but still.

Yes I did :( I really don't understand the mentality of putting things like this on youtube, or sharing it on other sites.

I feel sorry for the child, and to say 'she's old enough to know better' is ridiculous; children learn from having good role models. If she has only experienced people handling horses roughly how can she be expected to realise it is wrong - she's only a young child.

We don't even know what led up to the 'accident' anyway, I have been known to slap horseflies off my horse in the summer; I'm sure if you videod it and then edited it you would think I was hitting him properly!

This! Child should have been disciplined by its parent. Not videoed, not a nice vid at all.

I once judged a junior handlinig class in dogs and I noticed a small nine year old walloping her Great Dane because it wouldn't co-operate with her. I had a word with the child, got the steward to keep an eye on her and eventually placed her last in the class. I told her that she would have done better if she'd been kinder to the dog and she dissolved into tears. Her parents later came up to me to ask what had happened and when I told them they grinned and said 'Well she is only 9'. I told them that if she was old enough to handle the dog she should be old enough to know how to treat it and they went off in a huff. I blame the parents :)))
