my horse is on loan to my neighbours while i'm away at college so they let me ride him and use him when i'm home. over the summer i did a huge amount of work with him to get him working on the lunge and when i left he was going great.

i'm a little worried now though as last time i tried to lunge him the second i even lifted the lunge whip he sped of cantering round and round and not slowing down atall evey time he had the same reaction on both reins i'm a bit worried the people who have him on loan me be being a bit...(how to put this nicely) over enthusiatic with the whip? am i right and if so how do i bring it up. or is there another reason i just cant see? please help

maybe hes just excited and letting off steam? why not go up one day and watch when they lunge - rather than have to ask them directly?

It's your horse, don't pussy foot about the issue...just tell them what happened and ask what caused it. If you don't think the answer is valid, make it part of the loan agreement that they are not to use a lunge whip or not to lunge him at all.

Urmmmm it seems so doesnt it.

I think i would the next time your there try and get them to lunge him (i dont know how) and see exactly what there doing. When he starts speeding off ask why he has turned like this as he never used to do this with you.

Or just simpy tell them that your a little concerned about the way he was with you on the lunge

yeh i guess so i'm just worried about causing problems cause other than that the arrangement is working great i mean if he was loaned to anyone else i wouldnt really get to see him let alone ride him guess i should just try gettin them to lunge him and take it from there

Maybe you could tell them what happened and ask if he does it with them. If they say yes, say you can show them how to get him to go nicely on the lunge - so it sounds like you are helping and being nice rather than accusing them of beating him
