I am little and have big horses, only because they were the right animals, never considered size of me to them.

I just wondered how big all of you folks were to the size of horse you ride. Does it matter/make any difference to control/comfort etc.

5'7, mostly ride a 14hh Highland (but she is a 15.2 body with very short legs)

wouldn't ride anything smaller, happy to go bigger, or would if my hip worked and I could get on them

I'm 5'6 and Teeny, My horses are 16hh, 16.1hh and 17.2hh, just cos its hard to get the right warmblood any smaller. I would go up to about 18hh with no problems (well except for tacking up!!!)

I'm about 5'6 and ride a very wide 15.3hh cob and a WBxTB middle/light weight 16.2hh and look fine on both of them. Have also ridden 14.2s and look fine on them too!

I'm 5' 8" and the majority of my horses average out at about 15hh. I have a 16.3hh who I ride a fair bit but my personal horses which no-one else rides are 14.3hh and 15.2hh respectively.

I am 5ft 8 and ride a 16.1hh and a big 17.2hh

To be honest I never feel big or small on anything I ride! I sometimes school a 13hh dressage pony for someone and have ridden up to 17.3hh ish big warmbloods.

I only think small people and big horses becomes a problem when the horse knows they are bigger and stronger! And start to throw themselves around.

I'm 5'2, size 8. My last horse was 17.2. Now I've finally found the elusive small warmblood (well, 16hh - but growing damn it). My riding is more effective on the smaller horse. But riding the bigger one taught me to use my seat properly, as my legs meant nothing!

lol, ive ridden 13.2's and looked HUGE on them - however am not particularly heavy so not really a problem. Theoretically, i should look tall on my mare (and have been told i do - PAH!) but she takes my leg well and is a born weight carrier so you wont catch me getting rid yet!

Im 5'6ish and ride every size and shape of horses. My lot are 16hh, 15.2hh, 16.2hh and 17.2hh, ones at Bek range from 16hh-17.1hh. I am quite funny about riding bigger horses, I dont want to over horse myself which is why I would neve hunt/compete Herc- my dads 17.2hher.

I'm 5'4 and ride a 14.2 (in my sig).

I knew I was ok for her weight wise but I used to wonder if I looked too tall, now I've seen lots of pics I think I'm ok

I'd go smaller for one off's if I thought the pony could handle the weight ok but I guess for cosmetic purposes 14.2 is the smallest I would ride.
16.2 is the largest I would choose but my ideal horse would prob be 15.2 max.

I'm 5'2" and started off with a 17.1hh TB - then a 14.3hh Welsh section D - then a 16.1hh TB x ID (high withered, long as a week so seemed bigger), then a 15.3hh ISH, now a 16.2hh SF!

I just find that it depends how the horse rides - I wouldn't have bought my current boy if he hadn't felt right, and everyone says how good we are for each other

5'6''ish, my mare is 14.2 but a welshie so barrel shaped. I ride from about 13.2 -16.2 at work. Have ridden bigger but unless they are short coupled or well schooled I feel like my arms and legs are too short adn I can't ride them properly.

Am 6ft, not v heavy & my boy is an ID xTB, probably pushing 16,1 - when I was buying I really wanted a 'big horse' but anything I tried over 16, 2 wasn't right for me....he had quite a deep barrel though so my legs end up in just the right spot....

I did try a horse that was 17, 3 though - he was only 4 & had no muscle or condition on him & the thoughts of what he would turn into with proper feed & work put me off (also I'm currently on full livery and my YO at the time was 5ft 2 so thought it might not be very fair to land her with him!)

I am about 5ft9 ish and ride a 15.2hh ISH

. PS any critics I only weight about 9 3/4 stone [

I am 4'11 and 3/4" and Cairo is 16.3 clydesdale - we fit fine. My cousin is about 4'8 and less than 6 stone - she too rides him but does look like a flea on a dog's back. She loves taking him out and doing a little jumping, and he does look after her. Any other big horse I would be concerned about her.

My gypsy cob Chancer is about 14.3 and already wider to sit than Cairo - and he is not yet 3!

Personally I prefer a larger horse than a tiny pony with nothing at the front end.

I'm 5'4 ( and 3/4 darn it!!)

Bob is 14.2 and i feel right on him as he takes up my leg.
Prev horse was a 16.1 IDx, and i couldn't get my legs round him atall!

Don't feel safe on big (tall) horses...but i think that's more to do with having a fear of heights ( not the horse) and it makes me dizzy!!

5ft 7 and have a 17.1hh clydie x!! I used to have a fear of anything over around 15hh (due to a bd riding school) you wouldnt know that now thanks to some brilliant riding school horses and Pickle

I'm a chunky 5'5" and have a 14h highland, 15h IDx, 15.3h TB and 16h TB... I think I look best on the 2 smaller ones as they are chunlky and take my leg up, am convinced I look a bit big on the TB's however they feel right....

Im about 5'9ish as well - I ride anything from a 13.2hh (only very gently to get him out very occassionally!) to a 16.1hh. I do feel a bit big even on my 16.1hh though as he's a very light build. Yet on one of my other smaller horses who is chunkier I look fine. It very much has to do with the horses type / build than height.

Im 5'7, Winston is 17h IDxTB but I dont look silly. Bertie was 16.1 TB but snoop is bearly 16h and feels tiny after ive ridden winston.

Im hoping that Snoop doesnt grow tho, i like having a pocket rocket
