I swear before sidneys leg heals one of us will have killed the big b*gger.
On sunday hubby was shifting stables as Sidney has got too dangerous to muck out whilst he is in there with you. Halfway between his stable and hovis's stable (they're next to each other) Sidney decided to do a runner.
Luckily somone got the yard gates shut just in time as he cantered and bucked his way towards the road. He was rearing, bucking, squealing and generally looking very pleased with himself. Eventually hubby managed to catch him and get him back into his stable.
There's thankfully been no sign of him limping and no heat so hopefully this hasn't made things worse. This added to the aggression in the stable, the lunging, the biting and the kicking is testing us both to the max. I'm thinking of taking his ACP myself as its doing nothing to him! This is only week 3!
The YO did comment that he could see no sign of lameness as Sidney tanked towards him at great speed!
The vets are coming out tomorrow to reassess him and re-xray the fracture.
Fingers crossed he's not done any more damage.
 
When our pony was on box rest we had to keep increasing the dose of acp. Can't remember what she ended up on but vet said it was enough to knock out a 16hh horse and she is only 13hh, and you still wouldn't have known she was on it! Its good news though that he seems to be sound.
 
It might be worth trying sedalin gel - it is acp in a different form but for some reason I have found it to be a bit more potent.
I would also be inclined to cross tie him in his stable when ever you go in to do something with him, and if possible get bars up over the door.

Poor lad, make me thankful mine has taken to the actual stable part of box rest so well.
 
When we had to give acp in gel for or(sedalin) the difference is (said the vet) you can only get it on persciption unlike the tablets and it acts quicker (within 20 mins) as it goes directley into the blood stream so it is stronger. lasts upto about 7 hours. Before using this it took 3 blacksmiths my husband and I to hold a 15.h welsh palomino to be shod. Even then he got away and the blacksmith had said we needed to do something as he was becoming dangerous. I rang the vet and asked if they would be able to sedate him. They came out checked his heart (which they have to do before giving sedalin). It worked wonders even the farrier said you've done marvels with him. Oh if only we had to let him go he was sold to us by someone who gets rid of horses even dealers can't sell. The vet thought he may have had this sedalin when we went to view him.

We've tried Sedalin. The problem being he's become so head shy you can't get it into him. You can now only just get his head collar on without him rearing up. Its heart breaking as normally he is so affectionate and cuddly. He just hates being inside.
He's also a BIG 17.2 and his reach is phenomonal at both ends.
He's having bars fitted the whole way across his door at the weekend. He's just amazingly fast. He can cow kick or turn faster than you'd believe.
He's also unpredictable. Last night he was an angel with me. Led between the two stables like a lamb, let me change his rugs etc no problem. This morning was a total nightmare. Rearing and kicking in the stable.
 
cant u put the sedalin in his feed? the horse at my yard with hairline fracture has it in his feeds and he has 4 little feeds a day (dont know if sedalin is in each one tho or just some)
the vet also gave her (after showing her how) some acp to inject if he was being particularly silly in his stable and needed it quickly (obviously you have to be able to get near enough him safely to do it tho)
I really do feel for you, my horse has a bone chip so has been in for the last 4 days (while we were making him a tiny paddock as hes allowed out very restricted) and hes been a little (17hh!) git in that time and refused to go back in his stable when i'd taken him out
