My horse has been diagnosed with liver damage recently, bloods were taken due to his severe weight loss which is how we found out, the problem I have now is that he's gone off his short feed, haylage, hay and some of the grazing. He is on antibiotcs, vits and minerals and milk thistle every day. However because he wont take a hard feed I have to syringe these. Does anyone have any idea what I can try to tempt him with? He needs the calories for weight gain, before diagnosis he was on alfa a and conditioning cubes (due to his weight problem) and after diagnosis we have tried sugar beet, hifi and haysaver cubes (lower in protein and better for the liver I understand). He will still eat carrots and apples but I need to get some fibre into him.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, thank you x

Not sure if this will help but my horse has liver problems and also has many allergies which causes issues with feed.
They have to have low protein but you also have to feed the best quality you can afford. My mare due to her allergies has to be fed speedibeet and micronised barley. She also cant have chaff due to her choking constantly. I had to get the vet and feed merchants to give me help to get a feed that was suitable for her allergies and also supported her liver.

Sorry that probably not much help but others will come along and give you some advice.

Badminton high fibre complete is good, my liver damaged pony ate this for a few months but has now decided he doesn't like it. He is currently having Honeychop chaff and Spillers high fibre cubes along with Silvermoor high fibre bagged haylage and he grazes all day. He won't eat his milk thistle any more or yea sacc, not even with my secret weapon of speedibeet soaked with peppermint tea (which is also worth a try)
