Liver Enzimes (think thats how you spell it)

liver enzymes.
And i think it would depend upon the cause.
Liverfailure, Tumour, infection or just normally elevated lesson?!

Usually if there are no underlying reasons and they are just elevated they should return to normal within a few months.

it all depends on how high they are elevated and why they are? it could be herpes ragwort poisioning infection liver fluke it could be a lot of thinks what have the vets said about the bloods and why did you take thge bloods in the first place?

While you and your vets work out what the underlying problem is you need to take immediate action to support the liver. The horse needs to immediately go on a LOW PROTEIN diet - since all animals need some protein to live, what protein the horse does have must be the highest quality you can find. Start the horse on Milk Thistle which has anecdotally been shown to support the liver. Start Yea Sac as a feed supplement to aid hind gut digestion which is compromised in liver damaged horses. You will also need to keep the horse out of the sun during the day as liver damage causes acute photosensitivity and the horse will burn very badly in summer sunshine. Beyond this, watch out for the following symptoms which would tell you the situation is getting worse: loss of appetite, weight loss, lethargy, loss of interest in life, jaundice, standing in corners pressing the head against a wall, blindness, self harm and other neurological damage.

Act fast - if the damage is through ragwort poisoning, the liver can never regenerate so you need to stop further damage fast. With most other liver damage the liver can regenerate. PM me if you need more info x

We took the blood tests because the pony was giving a slight snort and was subsequently scoped and put on ventipulman.

The pony is gaining weight and is herself. That is what has the vets puzzled!
