hi i have had blood tests run on my youngster after she has been down an had a few colicy bouts over the last few weeks

this has also been teamed with swollen back legs that keep coming and going

her results came back with abnormalities of the liver and they are running a more conclusive test on monday.

i was wondering if anyone knew of any feeds that help with liver function?

There have been quite a few threads about liver problems on here recently, so do do a search for them as there's lots of info on there.

However, at least in the short term, it's worth opting for relatively low protein and definitely a low fat diet, as a compromised liver will struggle to cope with these things.

Well worth involving a nutritionist too, because a growing youngster will need more protein than a mature animal, and you will need to give him good quality protein (more branch chain amino acids; less aromatic amino acids).

Any idea what's caused the liver problem? Can you get rid of the cause?

Loz91 if you do a search on my posts you'll see a ton of information from when I took on a rescued mare with serious liver problems. Diet, symptoms, prognosis, options all covered. Good luck. Please PM me if you have any questions x

I have just has bloods done on my guy and to aid his liver was told to feed milk thistle. Through this forum have also heard oil is a no go for liver damage. Best to feed linseed for coat and condition.

I used Restore by global herbs on a horse with liver damage. It helped repair it and she never had the problem again. This was a few years ago but my vets still recommend it. My Cushings pony is having some now on their recommendation.
