I received a text the other day from one of the liveries I was about to ask to leave (But hadnt got round to it) because of her behaviour at the yard, spreading rumours that the yard was shutting down etc. Since, I have had 3 people leave.
The text said I will be leaving the yard but am waiting for stables/arena to be built so will keep you updated.

If this was you what would you do?

Tell her she has a months notice

i was thinking of telling her to be out by the end of the month, that gives her 2 weeks does that sound acceptable?

also what do i do if she doesnt/wont leave.short of physically moving her horse out of the yard?

she's found somewhere already but it's arena isn't finished

give her a weeks notice and get her out before she poisons your remaining liveries

i know it can take a while to find somewhere but shes got a place in mind shes just waiting to be built so it feels like she's just using my yard until something better comes along.
i just want her gone asap!

Do you not have a contract with her? It is normal to have written contracts with the notice period written in.

Also, how often does she pay? If she pays weekly, and there is no contract, then a weeks notice is fine, if monthly, then a months notice is more acceptable - I am sure that is how jobs work.

I know you want her gone ASAP, but just because she has left does not mean she will stop talking about the yard, kick her out with too little notice and she will tell all and sundry, thus potentially making it harder to get future livery clients - your reputation is important too.

I know the feeling with nasty liveries, you just want them out, we got rid of ours on sunday, she left early sunday morning said goodbye to only one person, didnt even tell the YO she was leaving and wrote in the livery book she was leaving on monday. Then to add insult to injury didnt even tidy up her stable it was disgusting!

I would definetly be careful about not being too harsh could scare your other liveries a bit

reynold thats what im worried about, ive got a few new people moving in at the end of the month and i dont really want them there before shes gone.
But spotted cat i see your point about when she does leave.

Any1 want to be a YM for a month?????!!!!!

BTW - they pay monthly and they have to give 1 months notice but the contract doesnt state how long i have to give them

I'm really sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear, but for the sake of fairness, if they pay monthly and have to give you a months notice, I think it is only fair you extend them the same courtesy. Otherwise if I were one of your liveries I would look elsewhere for fear of being out on my ear without enough time to find somewhere new! I know this is a slightly different situation, but when working in the service industry you have to be sooo careful!

Good luck, nope, would never want to be a YM!!

Spotted Cat -I know you are right I just dont want her there for any longer than possible! All my other liveries are so lovely i dont want any of them to leave!

Whats one more month, ive put up with it for long enough!!

xx

Give her the months notice and go around and speak to all your other liveries. Ask what rumours they may have heard and just reassure them that nothing of the sort is happening, and that you are always available for a chat should they have any worries blah, blah, blah.

I would also be inclined to make sure that I didn't say anything derogatory about your troublemaker, or even deign to mention her. Even if it would feel 'Oh so good' to rip her to verbal shreds, it wouldn't make you look too good sadly.

Good Luck, just grit your teeth for a month and take satisfaction in the thought that someone else will have her once she is out of your hair.

Good luck

a months notice is fair but i would make it clear that at the end of that month you will be charging daily (to prevent her 'waiting' any longer)
Thats what we do - and a £25 a day charge soon see's any hanger-ons leaving sharpish

just make sure its in writing

I was given 12 days notice to leave. (Obsessive YO daughter, injunction, had to change locks...you get the idea!!!) As it was I had already decided to leave (funny that!) and was going that day anyhow, but IMO less than a months notice is quite unfair. However she does have somewhere to go doesn't she. Maybe a little push would be in order.

I can't beat Enfys reply TBH!

Only yesterday did my livery move her horses, (Her stuff is still here - but not for very much longer if I have my way!) and the relief, well, you can't measure it if I'm honest! Mine paid fortnightly and gave me a fortnight notice so I think if they pay monthly, then it's only fair to give them a month; sorry if that's a blow!

As soon as they have gone, you could always have a yard party to welcome the new people to make them feel at home!

(tea and gungy cakes in the tack room might even be enough if you don't fancy a proper party!)

Good luck, I do sympathise.

On the one hand, you are so pissed off you want to throw her out now (grrr!)
BUT, on the other hand, you are a professional person...you aren't going to be drawn into reacting to her....remember all your (nice) liveries will be watching what you do and you don't want to make it look as if she's the wounded party....I'd wait a few weeks to see if she comes up with a date. If not, I'd ask her...'because, although you're sorry to see her go, you also don't want to turn others away if there's going to be a space'. Only if she doesn't set a date, then give her a lengthy notice period, and be sweet as pie until she b****rs
off. So you come out looking professional and charming, and she looks like a sad git.

Hi
It sounds like you'd like her to leave before the new liveries so I would request she leaves in 2 weeks time. By way of explanation, i would suggest something along the lines of needing the box empty as you have a potential livery and need to commit to them. Obviously if the box isnt empty you potentially lose a customer. Hopefully this means she will leave on quite good terms and you have remained professional in both her eyes and the remaining liveries eyes which is important as Shilasdair says, you don't want to be seen to be drawn into reactive behaviour.
Good luck

thanx for all you replys

shilasdair - that sums up exactly how I feel atm!
Enfys - i have spoken to most of my liveries already and cleared up the rumours. they seem to be fed up with her moaning and constant critisism as much as me!

I think i'll give it until the start of next week ( a week after the text) and then ask her if she's got a date in mind because i need her box. I like the idea of £25 per day if she stays after the notice period!!
