I am moving to Milton Keynes in November and just want some advice on what its like there. I'll be bringing my 3yr old traditional cob with me. I actually lived in MK several years ago, but lived in at work and kept my horse on site, so never really got in the horsey loop.

I'll be looking for a livery yard, ideally grass livery as due to a number of physical problems I'm not sure I can cope with DIY and mucking out, lugging water etc at the moment! I'm hoping in a years time that will be different and by then Frankie will be a 4yr old and ready to do a bit more. But does anyone know any decent grass livery yards in or near MK?

I havent got a particular area I need to live in, so can find a house near a decent livery yard. I'm lucky to have a very supportive OH who agrees that we find Frankie somewhere to live first, then us :D

Is there any call for free lance riding instructors in MK? I teach part time at the minute and this is something I want to continue, or any recommendations for riding schools to approach for work? I used to work at Loughton so will give them a call nearer the time, but I'd be interested in suggestions of other schools to contact, or I'm equally happy to freelance if theres a call for it.

What sort of prices am I looking at for livery now? I dont mind roughing it a bit, but would like a decent school and some facilities, but not looking at anywhere like the eventing centre just yet as it would be a waste with a just backed 3 yr old :)

This time last year I would have suggested my yard...now avoid like the plague!!
My internet won't be back until Tuesday, so if you pm me, I'll reply then :-)

There are a couple of grass livery places i know of but not at my computer for a week or so to get details so send me a pm and that will remind me to send them when I can. I love being in the area, great hacking, competition centers and tack shops! Welcome back to the area :)

There are some pretty horsey areas around MK, but I work rather than live there so can't be specific. Try putting a wanted ad up at RB Equestrian. There are always ads for livery yards up on the board there so it looks like there is a good choice of places.

Just to revisit this now I'm here, does anyone know any grass livery places within 10 miles or so of MK5? Bryerly Springs isnt offering grass livery anymore and I tried the Parks Trust paddocks and lasted less than 10 weeks!

Have you tried Dennes Country store ? They have a notice board and I'm sure there were a few adverts for livery places available. Grass livery is tough at the moment, only due to the wet weather. I'm sure there are quite a few that offer grass livery but are having to restrict that at the moment purely because its so wet.

MK Eventing centre?? If they don't know have any vacancies, they may be able to point you in the direction of someone else.

We're actually looking to move out of MK now. The Parks Trust are in the process of getting planning permission for housing developments on the paddocks so they won't be around for much longer and their are VERY few livery yards within reasonable travelling distance. :(

They're also pretty unreasonable. They're charging my friend for 2 horses, despite her only having one!!

What's the going rate for 5 day part livery? I'm going to look at somewhere that's £300 a month but I can't decide if that's about right or not never having done anything more than assisted DIY!

I'm pm you Carefree Girl :) I'm MK5 so seem to be the wrong side of MK for anything although I'm sure there must be yards Whaddon way, I just dont know where or how to get in touch!

Depending what side you are, how about some of the villages like Gawcott?
Dennes Country store have basic website if you google it, with address on.
Think Horseatack also have a book full of adverts for yards, amongst other things.

I live in MK5, and 9 miles give or take is my limit. I've been to Horseattack today and 90% of the numbers dont work as they are out of date :(

I have a couple of leads and I'm going to try and pop into Dennes tomorow having done Horseattack and RB today :)

There is a yard in Drayton Parslow, not sure whether they offer grass livery or not but even their other prices are within your budget. Pm me if you want the number

There is one i know of in newton longville.....its calls Springfeild Equestrian or something like that. Not sure what they offer but I've heard good things about it.

Fingers crossed I've found somewhere on a private yard where he can be on a full ish grass livery 5 days a week, which is my ideal! I'm hopefully moving this weekend, so fingers crossed we both settle there as on paper it sounds ideal :)
