I'm doing a 50 min round trip to my yard at the moment - mare is on full livery and I ride before work, so I'm getting up at 5am most mornings.
There are other, and cheaper, livery yards closer to home. But I'd drive twice as far to the yard I'm at if I had to - the support I get and the care my mare receives are incomparable. I trust the YO totally and completely and she's very happy there.
For me, support is everything, especially with a youngster. Could you not swap them round and have her on grass and the youngster in?
They are both on full livery, one stabled and one at grass. I would swap them but my mare is no good out 24/7 we couldn't get enough feed in her.
The livery yard is amazing...and the support is amazing...cannot fault them, it is just difficult to come up with a solution fit for everyone...these days I need to consider my toddler and OH, my OH would rather I stay where I am and not put my mare through another winter there
Thank you so much for your replies...I decided to go for the field! talked to landlord last night, have to tell livery yard today
The barn has a concrete floor and lots of space so my mare can get in off the mud but have plenty of space to move about....hoping it will give her more time, a better winter and a happy medium!
Feel much happier, will be more work but at least I will have money in the bank again
