I am moving to Harrogate, left nearly 30 years ago!

I have got two retirees, one a Shetland and want a small quiet yard, preferably grass livery with a decent shelter or stables for the worst of the weather.

Relaxed quiet place - they are currently at home in a field.

Not sure I could get there every day, depends on distance. This is the worst part of my move, finding somewhere for them.

If anyone could suggest anywhere I would be really grateful.

Hi, try Sarah Dent at Gallabar Farm - calm yard with all year round turnout (most live out all year round). She is usually quite full but it's worth asking! Haven't got her number but if you look it up you'll find it as she used to do a lot of natural horsemanship work. It's at Marton cum Grafton so a bit out of Harrogate but all the other yards I know of nearer to town are more geared to horses being in a lot in winter!

Thanks, that is great, I will phone her. We will be in Harrogate this week, can you recommend any feed shops with a decent notice board?

Go to Beaver Horse Shop near Harlow Carr - massive tack/feed shop & livery yard (but with limited winter turnout!!) - they have a large notice board and also worth asking the assistants if they know of any yards as they could know some smaller ones that have all year turnout...

There's also Pharmall at Killinghall (10 mins from Beavers) - big pet/horse food shop - presume they have a notice board!

There's also Fox Saddlers in Wetherby - they may know of some suitable local yards that are more in the Harrogate direction! If you haven't time to go you could give them a ring.

If I have a brainwave for any others I'll let you know!! :)

Thanks again, I have emailed this thread to myself and am planning on spending Wednesday looking around for my horses. I will update next week, hopefully I will find somewhere.

Am really grateful.

No problem, happy to help!
If you want to privately message me with any yards you find then feel free - I might know if they're ok or truly horrid!!! It's hard enough finding a yard when you know the area well, let alone when you haven't been here for a long while!! :)

Well, back to the drawing board as we are now moving near Ripon. I am going to ask the local landowner if he has got a paddock I can rent to begin with. If I could walk them back to the house, as in it isn't too far, they can come in at night at home (which is my preference really).

If that plan doesn't work I will be back!

That sounds like a good plan if it's possible!!
If you need any help with yards in the Ripon area then give me a shout again - I'm clueless but I can ask friends who are in Ripon! Also find Ripon Pet Supplies - Annie Brown who works there is lovely, helpful & friendly!! :)

Yes, Dazed, I live in hope. Sadly, I have got a mobile Redmire Hunter stable block here that is fantastic but too expensive to move so I will be selling it.

Thank you, that is lovely, we are hoping to move in about a month. If I don't find a paddock in the next two weeks I will be bothering you again. You are fab!
