Livery in Aberdeen?

Will hopefully be getting a horse in the next year or so but want to be prepared. I'm an under 18 in Aberdeen and would be looking ideally for grass livery but obviously that's not right for all horses so DIY would be an option.

Based in city centre, would like something as close to me as possible, preferably with good bus routes.

Right now I'm looking in Sunnyside, mainly because it's next to Hayfield where I would get lessons. Do they do grass and DIY, and can anyone tell me the prices there?

Also any other places (not too expensive please) that would suit me?

Quick question, not really relevant anyway - if I could get Sunnyside or a similar place I'd love to hack over to Hayfield. This would involve going along a couple of roads or through Hazlehead Park. I've read someone recommend hacking at Sunnyside since you've got Hazlehead Park - is this legal? And are the roads legal too?

Not sure what services Sunnyside offer but there is also a place called Hillhead 2 mins from there (closer to Hayfield) which is very cheap and offers diy and grass. I could probably get the phone number for you. It's very easy to hack to Hayfield from either place. The roads are fine and you hack through the forestry tracks. Hazlehead park is nowhere near Sunnyside or Hillhead. It's not accessible to horses . You don't go anywhere near it to get to Hayfield. There is also Loanhead which offers a ton of livery choices as well as a few farms round a bout the area that offer livery but you'd probably need to pop into them yourself.
 
Ilovefoals - thanks! oops- must be getting muddled up. just wondering, how cheap is cheap? I'm on a pretty limited budget so loan head will be way too much unfortunately.

Hayfield is IN Hazelhead Park :confused:

Hayfield has some of the finest off road hacking to be found anywhere in Scotland. Rides around Hazlehead Park which was given to the people of Aberdeen by King Robert the Bruce are always good fun. Every ride out in the park weaves in and out of and around the golf fairways and through a mixture of wooded trails and sometimes open fields.

The main roads round Hazelhead are rather busy though OP, Im not sure Id hack over there tbh, although yes its legal.

Confused, Hayfield is in the middle of Hazelhead forest with all round hacking. Hillhead is very close, there's also good hacking at Loanhead with tracks to Hazelhead up the back prob a 15min ride away (been a long time so may be slightly further but we certainly used to do it comfortably). Sorry can't help with pricing but I would assume Hillhead to be the cheaper option.

No I'm not muddled since I've lived in the area all my life!!! The actual park is no where near Hayfield. It is a park with kids play area, maze, trampolines, cafe etc. It's not near the park. It's within the forestry tho so no, you don't go near the ACTUAL park but it's within the estate. We call the play park "the park" and the rest is the forestry just to make it clear :)

Hillhead was about £80 a month when I was there and I don't think their prices have gone up much. It's about a 15 min hack to Hayfield from there, 5 mins on the road. PM me if you want more info.

no sorry, the park is 180 hectares, its a park owned by the council, including the wooded area, not an estate anymore. Ive lived round there too and rode at Hayfield as a student moons ago.. you’re talking about a playpark within it - why would the OP even want to ride in a playpark:confused:

What are you on about???? Where did I say ride in a play park??? I said Hayfield is no where near the play park. It's within the forestry. It's always been owned by the council. I've lived there for 34 years so I do know! Anyway, who cares??!!! I'm sure if the OP goes and looks at surrounding yards she'll soon see the lie of the land so to speak.

crikey ok! Point being if you read the links it will tell you the whole area is a ‘park’ including the forestry which is what the OP was asking about riding in. I didnt say you rode in a playpark. I think you just seem to have a different definition of the word. Didnt meant to upset you, really.

Anyway, OP lots to choose from :)

Neverseensanta - tis ok. Just felt you were making me out to be an idiot. I suppose it's cos those of us who have lived and liveried there for all our lives don't call refer to Hayfield as part of the park. The park means something else entirely and we call Hazelhead woods the "Hayfield tracks" actually. Anyway, the op will investigate in person I'm sure :)
