Hi all I have been lurking on here for a while and was wondering if any of you could help me out?

I'm looking for somewhere to keep my horse on livery in the Newcastle area as in September I will be moving there to attend uni (hopefully) and due to unforseen circumstances horsey is now coming with me! :D

However being new to the area, I am clueless on even where to start:o

I am looking for
-DIY livery with optional extras available such as turnouts
-All year round turnout ( 24/7 in summer and daytime through winter)
-Small turnout groups if possible
-A good arena, can be indoor or outdoor (or both!)
-Good hacking, although doesn't have to be incredible
-Showjumps to use in the arena
-XC facilities would be nice but not essential!

I have so far been recommended Bowes Manor livery, anyone any comments to make on that one?

And also the Lambton estate so any further on them would also be good (although is looking to be a fair distance away)

Congrats if you got this far cookies for all who help

Andd a pretty picture of said horse - "Joules" as a desperate plea for help

Hi there!

Have you got a car? I am based at a lovely yard just south of Morpeth, about 15/20 mins outside the city centre. They have an outdoor school, large stables, lots of grazing and winter turnout. Only 10 horses (turned out in seperate fields) and a full time, employed stable supervisor that deals with day to day horse duties....

Off road hacking isn't great but there is a horse box available to transport to another area for riding and there is a very local xc course.

Sensibly priced

Get in touch if you want more details

Kay

Hack Hall Farm has all of the above except xc and help with extras... however there are plenty of people on the yard who will help bring in/turn out or you can pay someone a quid a time. It's in Dinnington and a bus from town goes straight past, busstop outside the yard. Hope this helps :)

Shall PM you all, thankyou so much!

I do have transport and willing to keep my car at uni if needs be to have him at a good yard so any further suggestions feel free to add :)

I have relations with horses that live up there -there are some close to city centre depends on how far you want to travel to were you will be based and its better if you really have a look yourself and what you want with regards to part/full /diy/compete go were there are competitions on site , bowes and penshaw both do,but you should get good feedback from here and if you find anywere, ask on here , as anywere you need to separate the good from the bad !
Good luck

There are a list of livery yards on www.northeastequine.co.uk.

The 2 yards that you mention are quite far from Newcastle, Hack Hall is probably the nearest to the city and I know they were advertising vacancies recently.

This looks a good link Matfen, Riding Mill, Ponteland, Ingoe nr Matfen, stamfordham, dinington, Heddon-on-the-wall are all pretty close to the town about 10 minutes in good traffic. Depeneds where you are going to live? Would think it will be Jesmond area? So Whitley Bay could be ok for you too.

Pastures New only do Full Livery and don't have xc course although they do have portable xc jumps and fantastic hacking.

High Plains in Riding Mill has everything on your list although the hacking isn't the best as there aren't really any circular routes (on roads). However it is a UK Chaser site (so has a woodland ride) and is BHS Reg with a BHSAI on site.

both of the above have websites so have just have a look on there.

Thanks very much guys that given me some brilliant leads to follow up on, especially now im bandaged and on crutches for afew days it will give me something to do

May be a bit late but it's always worth contacting the Uni Riding Club, I have done this a few times (seem to be collecting degrees!). They can usually advise on yards and also a good way to make contact with other horsy people at the Uni.

I tried that one to no avail, the uni were absolutely useless and merely sent me a link to a thompson local site where they had typed in "newcastle" and "livery/riding schools" fat lot of help that was! :)

Hi. Not able to help re livery yards but if you need a sharer I know someone going to Newcastle to do her Masters this autumn. Very good rider, rode for uni team at edinburgh uni, and will be looking to ride while she is at Newcastle uni so let me know if you are interested and I will put you in touch with her. She has her own car too.

Not a stupid idea at all. If its any consolation Roo2010, i had the same foolish idea that they may actually be helpful!

Trakhernersrock! i have PM'd you :)
