Hi everyone,

I am moving to the UK soon and fortunately my horse is coming too. My dad is getting a job in the Middle East and I will be attending boarding school in Surrey. Unfortunately I haven't visited yet but I have lived in Surrey when I was younger. I am visiting next week and I am wondering everything you could tell me about livery in the UK. I have no idea what to expect in terms of prices, facilities, quality etc.

As my horse is young/green I would need a trainer near by or at the facility also, is this common? I prefer showjumping but my horse is in training in dressage. Afterwards I hope to compete in eventing also. Are these facilities going to be readily available?

Sorry for the long post but I really want to make the most of my visit next week! I appreciate any help!

Ooooo....moving to a very nice part of the country. I grew up in Surrey, but you would need to be it bit more specific as to town. Facitilies are fantastic. There is Merrist Wood just outside Guildford, and just oodles of yards. Will you be putting your horse through quarantine before or after you move to the UK? Normally I would suggest looking up saddlery and riding wear on www.yell.com, then visit them looking for ads for livery. More yards advertise in www.horsequest.co.uk www.horsemart.co.uk www.horsedeals.co.uk Don't be disheartened if the first yard you go to doesn't turn out to be the right one. I've been in Somerset for 3 years, am on my 5th yard and 4th trainer and finally have found the right combination that suits me and my pony. Finally google "livery surrey", you may get a load of unrelated stuff but you will find some gems too...nearly forgot www.bhs.org.uk...have a section on liveries. And if you go near Farnham you will have Nikki Barrett and her hubby on your doorstep in Odiham.

Thanks!
To be honest, I am not entirely sure where the school is. I do think it is near Virginia Water if not in Virginia Water. I'm willing to drive a fair amount to get to the best barn available, although I do realize that DIY livery might be difficult if the barn was farther away.

What is the school as I might know someone there? In terms of livery, are you going to be looking for DIY, Part, Full or Training livery? I know of a few really nice places in surrey but I'd rather tell you about them by PM.
