I have 2 horses on grass livery, last weekend the lady that owns the field ( private not livery yard, owner has one horse ) complained about the behaviour of one of my horses. I haven't seen any of the aggressive and dangerous behaviour she described but anyway I agreed to look for somewhere else for this horse. Anyway, we had a discussion the next day and she asked me to give 4 weeks notice if I was leaving, later on she text me saying she wasn't happy with some of the comments I had made regarding the grass and fields and she was giving me 4 weeks notice as from today. Written notice was given the next day which was last Tuesday. Now, if I remove my horses before the 4 week notice is up do I have to pay up in full till the day my notice ends?? It is not exactly convenient to move them at the moment, nor was it my decision.

Did you sign a contract or have any discussion with her about levaing notice when you moved there? Did you give a deposit?

Giving 4 weeks notice (and you pay the whole 4 weeks regardless) is standard. But it would have to be stated at the start for it to stick I would have thought.

I signed a contract, but no deposit. Haven't ever been given notice to leave before and I don't want to pay twice if I move them before the 4 weeks is up, even if it is just for 3 weeks. She has avoided me since giving me notice and doesn't like / is scared of my mare so it would probably be preferable for her to let me go asap.

why dont you find new yard (if not done already) and get a date as to when you can move in. go back to current YO and say "i have found new place but obviously cant go until my 4 weeks notice is up as im not paying twice." if she is that keen for you to go maybe she will say just go without notice. i always thought if you gave notice you had to pay but if you are given notice you go as soon as and only pay for time you are actualy at yard.
horrible situation you just want out as soon as i know how that feels!!!
hope it all works out for you
