Hi I am having a mare in foal coming to stable at my yard and I will do all the work as the owner is out of the country.

I was thinking of things I need to know incase I cant get in touch with her in a problem situation,

apart from vets
allergies
worming etc can you lot think of anything else?

thanks in advance

Does she want the mare to foal down at your yard?
If not when does she want the mare to go back to stud?
A copy of her insurance policy if she has one - she will need to notify them that you are keeping the mare for her.
A signed piece of paper authorising you to act in the mare's and foal's best interests with veterinary advice.
Vaccinations.

"From foal to full grown" is a very good book - it caused me some alarm, as it covers every eventuality, and I know plenty of experienced breeders who do not follow half of the things it recommends, but you will need to err on the side of caution what with her not being yours. You local library may have a copy.

I do pet sitting for a living and there are a couple of "morbid" questions which I hate asking but do need to know the answers to:

In the event of the owner not returning (ie they die) have arrangements been made for rehoming the mare and foal?

Should either have to be put down what does the owner what done with the body?
