I need to find a new yard for my horse - current one is 45 mins away, and not the greatest of facilities.

Due to work I need full livery - I work away a lot.

All the yards local to home (within 20 mins) are either totally unsuitable, or mostly, only offer Mon - fri full livery, with very little scope to offer services at the weekend.

I love having my horse, but I don’t want my whole weekend to be consumed by it - I’d actually like to spend some time with my husband and go and visit places/do other things.

Where in the country are you?

We have the opposite issue here in that all our full livery yards are 7 days. 5 days is rare.

Have you asked the other yards if they would offer even some of the services at weekends or does that make it unaffordable?

I know it’s not unusual to have to travel a distance for full livery, are there no other options?

It wouldn’t be unaffordable… I don’t trust the smaller yards to be totally reliable over the weekend (ie the one weekend staff member calls in sick, I’m away with work, up the creek without a paddle then when I can’t get to sort the horse out.)

Re travelling… I want to spend time with my horse, I enjoy working with him, but driving an hour and a half 4/5/6/7 days a week to spend 45 mins simply pottering around is not financially viable, nor sustainable for my own health.

You could probably get a sharer for the weekend days easily, easier than finding one in the week, small financial contribution + chores sat and sun in exchange for riding?
Thanks for the suggestion… alas currently weekend is the only time I really have to go and spend any time with the horse, and he’s not in enough ridden work to entice a sharer.

One option is to try and find a small private yard, you may sacrifice some of the facilities but gain the flexibility.
And rather than go the formal route you may pay the yard hay and farrier bill for example, so you don’t have the insurance issue.
For example, I could take on a livery and would prefer to look after the horse completely so I can match worming, farrier, turnout etc. I would in return like someone who occasionally exercises my horse and oversees holiday cover.
You could try adverts in local tack room/feed merchant/fb group and see what options you get.
Where are you?

I wouldn't call it a whinge. Your just looking for somewhere that suits you and your horse. Shouldn't be too much to ask. Hope you find somewhere lovely soon.
