So having moved out from my parents house in June, I have decided to move my big horse to a yard closer to my house, so I can actually ride him and school him! However I have never had a horse at a yard that isn't our own!
So far there are 3 choices...
Yard 1 - 5 mins from mine, lovely school, lots of horses and friendly people I know, yo will help out if needed and all year turnout for 120pcm - however I'm not sure he's winter out and to get a stable too is 160pcm
Yard 2 - 5 mins from mine, no school but schooling field, small stable on very corner of yard, lovely yo but no help unless you can befriend a livery and as much turnout as you like for 80pcm
Yard 3 - 20mins from mine, lovely stable and school and only 4 horses on the yard and yo lives on site and will help out for 120pcm
I've been pulling my hair out because I don't really want to spend huge amounts but the idea is to be able to actually school him (only a field to ride in at y parents and its not level!) and have him close so I can just pop out and check him? If anyone knows any other yards close to Hereford on the south side then please let me know :)
Any help much appreciated!!

i would rule out yard 2 straight away, if the main reason for moving is to be able to school, then dont move somewhere without a proper school!! if you can afford yard one then go for it :)

Can't help with yards in your area, sorry. But when you are deciding remember those snowy winter mornings. I'd always go for a yard that is close by so that you can walk if needs be. The yard 20mins away sounds lovely but think about fuel costs getting there. Good luck.

I like the sound of the first one tbh but only you will really know if right for you but it seems to have more going for you friend/school and a stable if you can find the extra 40 per month which you may use up in petrol driving 20 mins to yard 3 anyway.

I moved to a better yard 20mins away and after a year moved back to the closer one, although not a huge journey, there and back is almost an hour of your day and that's only once a day! Go for the closer one.

only thing i would also consider is how the hacking is around each yard? if schooling is why you are moving i agree go with yard 1, worth the extra money if you use it a lot, and the difference between yard 1 and 2 in price will be even in petrol cost
