I have started looking for a new livery yard since we most likely will be relocating this summer. Since I am based overseas at the moment, I prefer using email for my initial contact - due to both time difference and cost reasons. So I emailed a yard earlier this week, using the email address posted on their website. I explained that I found the address on their website, that I was looking to move to the area, and politely asked if I could have some information regarding the types of livery they offer and what the rates were etc.

I got the reply back and it simply states "Please contact us by phone thank you".

There was no name, no contact number, no information, nothing. I don't understand why people would list email under contact details if they don't want to use it. ALso, I would expect a professional BHS listed livery to be more businesslike in their communications...?

Where are you looking to move to? Maybe people on here can help?

Don't know what's wrong with THAT yard, but I have had it before where I found livery yards after hours of research... and then I get someone on the phone who is p*ssed off that I found their livery yard in the first place...

How rude! Would certainly substantially put me off.

If you want to give them a 2nd chance you could reply to explain that you are not in the uk and there is a time difference hence you are emailing.

If they don't apologise and answer your questions politely I would look elsewhere personally.

I will be moving to North Wales, most likely near Caernarfon.

I do understand that some people aren't comfortable with email so maybe that was why :) It just seemed a bit "short".

i think to be honest (as a YO!) especially as you are overseas, people may think you are either a timewaster or up to no good! sorry, but i get several hoax emails a week, and it does put me off using email. if you like the look of the yard, dont let it put you off and give them a ring.
sorry, prob not what you wanted to hear!
hope you find soemwhere nice x

Yeah, I guess they could have their reasons. If they had put "please call" on the website I would not have emailed. I used a UK email address though and did not mention in my first email that I was overseas. I would still consider them but they might not be my first choice based on first impressions.

I know of a livery yard on (south) Anglesey, which is not too far away from Caernarfon in the grand scheme of things(this is not the most horsey part of the world!). PM me if you'd like details, I don't know much about prices/ facilities but I am friends with the owner and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to have a chat, and might know of others if hers is not suitable.

I have several livery inquiries by email each week and always respond in as detailed a way as I can...
