Hi everyone,

Due to a very sudden change in circumstances I need to move my horse up here from gloustershire. I am at uni here and am based on the west of scotland science park and I need livery yard offering full livery close by as I am relying on public transport till at least january to get to him so not to far out if possible. Also it will need to have daily turnout as due to him being a tb he does get really hot if he does not get to go out even if they just allow turn out in the school for a few hours in the morning or something that would do. This is all very sudden so I am looking for him to be up here in the next 2/3 weeks if possible. So if anyone knows of one that is of good quality not too far away from where I am that would be great. :D

Thanks,
Amanda

You are able to take bikes on most trains, so this might allow access to your livery yard. there is also a tunnel under the Clyde which gives you access to South Glasgow.
The yard at http://gryffesidelivery.homestead.com/ looks promising re turnout, which is a problem due to high rainfall in Glasgow!
I suggest you ring them to discuss travel, if not they might let you know some others.
You could ring David Gatherer to see if he knows of anyone.

when you say mosspark what do you mean? I cant find any livery yards with that name do they have a website or a contact number I could call.

oh god.. think it's dumbreck? I used to get the bus from Wolfson to govan and then another to the park.
do you know where the burrel collection is? it's in those grounds just past the rugby pitches.
I think the likes of busby, hazelden etc will be difficult to get to if you're relying on public transport.
have you tried easterton? it's in milngavie and if I remember correctly the 101 stops at the entrance to the science park.

You can get a train from Glasgow central straight to busby I think, I pass it on my line (i'm south side). Have heard good things about dumbreck as a riding school, know nothing about the livery tho. Good luck :) bring a brolly x

Easterton I wouldn't touch with someone else's barge pole! I used to work and live there. PM me if you want more info but seriously don't even consider it! Dumbreck was pretty poor when I was last there, they have very very limited turnout. Having said that I haven't been in for about ten years! I pass every week dropping OH to rugby training and it looks pretty grim! I'm here www.blackfauldsfarm.co.uk but we only do DIY. However it's true 365 turnout on great grazing and fab hacking. Good outdoor school as well. Great bunch of liveries always happy to help each other out.

emilieu is right - busby is right next to the train station.
if you're getting transport in January could you not get something temporary and then move?

It's a fab yard Emilieu, I was so lucky to find it when I was looking for a space for my youngster. I was looking for turnout mostly as I didn't want my boy in for months. Price is pretty good too! Much to my OH's disgust as we now have two horses for the livery price we were previously paying for one!

Hi yeah i am really interested in some more information about easterton as it is the closest to me but i have heard some very mixed reactions about it. That was my biggest worry about dumbreck was the turnout and the quality in the stables as on their website they have a picture of a horse in a field behind like a plastic road block thing that would just not hold up against my horse. :p unfortunately it has to be full livery as there is just no way that i can get there all the time to do him as i am a vet student and just dont have the time, i wish i could.

does anyone have any experience of Busby or i have found one that is quite close to me called kenmure riding club does anyone have experience of this yard?
thanks x

I looked at busby when I was looking for a new yard - I found the boxes a bit on the small side but I couldn't fault it other than that. It was a bit far for me, which is why we went elsewhere but like someone's said, the train station is very close.
Haven't hear of kenmure, sorry - googling doesn't come up with much either.

Spent a training day at Kenmure a few weeks back. It is a riding school. Facilities look good. Outdoor and indoor schools. Horse walker. Decent grazing. They do have livery, I just don't know if it's full or DIY.
Sorry I can't be more useful. I'm southside (and leaving for Hull as of tomorrow with horse). Busby, Hazeldeen, and Dumbreck are all southside riding schools. Don't like Dumbreck (but as it's in/near Pollock park the hacking might be good). Hazeldeen is stupidly expensive. Busby might not be too hard to get to but I hear no good things about what happens to the RC ponies in their training.

hazelden is £380 for full livery but they only take geldings and Im not sure if we have any spare boxes.
I can PM you the number if you're interested. :)

Not as expensive as Ingliston was  I used to pay £540 for full livery

I've heard busby get a lot of infections due to the amount of horses going in and out - that's total hearsay tho, I have never been. Saw some suspicious yellow flowers in the fields from the train. Must be loads of others tho, my yard doesn't come up if you Google - why not try yellow pages / feed shops / eqi ads etc?

Thanks everybody I have decided on Kenmure its a lovely yard and luckily not that far away from me. Unfortunately he has just be diagnosed with a hind suspensory injury due to him being an idiot in the field  but such is the life of horse, looking forwards to the 8(possibly more) weeks of box rest. Ah dont we all love our horses
