Not that much has changed, as the workmen had to go away for a couple of weeks to do work at other premises. Anyway they came back 10 days ago and have dug the HUGE holes where the building pillars will go and filled them with concrete and then moved on to the arena. They've put all the fencing and boarding up and are now putting the 12 poles up for the floodlights.

This is what it was like before-

Here are some piccies of it now-

Wow! Claire it is looking fantastic now! I bet you can hardly wait till it's all done. Have you set an opening date? Are you hoping to have it all done by next summer?

Thanks for your lovely comments

Yes, it is mine, its for the livery yard that we are setting up on one of our farms. It is 60 x 40 metres. Hope to be up and running March time......hopefully

It should definitely be finished by summer.

I have to say that I missed the original post, but am now suitably jealous with envy! From what I can see you are going the whole hog and doing the job right first time, which is a novelty round here. I would love a 60x40m arena to ride in, I might sound ungrateful but mine is 18m on one side, 42m on another and the opposing side is 22m and 48m, its just because of where we had to put it. Are you going to be having competitions? It looks like you have enough room!

It's really taking shape now isn't it? Are you going to plant anything as a windbreak or not bother?
What about the stables, I hope IAE aren't making your vast order instead of my tiny one.

. We managed to access our tied up cash today at last so we can pay the remainder of the money to them on Monday.. I felt a right fool explaining we have got the cash honest, but can't get at it as I explained in a rant in soapbox.
our concrete was finished today, it's vast, approx 90 feet long by 20 odd wide..It's taken numerous concrete waggons but is now hardening off nicely. (think of all that area to sweep CCJ!!)
I have ordered the brown plastic stables with sliding weave grills and it should look very smart indeed.
Any time scale when yours will arrive?

I was thinking just the other day, to how you were getting on with your yard, after veiwing your pic's a few months ago. It looks great you must be very pleased with all the work that you have done. Keep us all posted and more pic's along the way x

Thanks again everyone

Not sure if there will be competitions, I'd like to but it depends on insurance costs

There'll def be yard shows though!

I'll split it into, 2 x 20x60, 3 x 20x40 or even 2 x 30 x 40. Thats why we decided on a 60 x 40 so we could split it with cones and have 3 arenas sometimes.

I'm having silica sand with Spring-Tek rubber and foam on top.

HH- haha about IAE! I'm not too sure when ours will be ready, I think about mid November. Glad yours is coming on well, can't wait to see piccies of it all finished

My uncle nearly died when we had a quote for our concrete
crazy.gif
and he thought this arena was bad!

Yes, I'm going to plant a hedge on the 2 or even all sides. I'm so glad we had the bank on the 2 sides though as thats where we get the worst winds coming from.

So it must be yours they're doing not mine!!!
I am planning on rug racks outside each box and a hook for a headcollar and rope, we may buy just one haybar to start to see how they work then do all with them. I would have liked those swing round mangers but the costs have escalated so much (concrete took an extra load than estimated) that I doubt I can have any.
We now have to put more lights up above the stable area, change the perspex clear roof panels for new ones then buy auto drinkers.
The costs go on and on don't they?
If you buy one thing get a good arena leveller. ours is home made and super but doesn't dig out the sides which we have to do by hand, it is damned hard work and takes ages..
Are you going to put the membrane under the sleepers round the sides? We didn't with our first arena and it came up through the surface over time and the stones crept round the edges.
This time we overlapped loads and stuck all the sleepers on top to ensure it would stay put.
Are your buildings ready for the stabling?

Yes, I'm going to have rug rails too
smile.gif
I ordered 5 stables for myself, which will be put in an exsisting barn. They are brown plastic with sliding anti-weave doors, swivel mangers and an end fill hay door (without hay rack) I'm also going to buy haybars or something similar. Costs, yes they go on and on. We had Monarch out yesterday for the horse walker, didn't realise it's going to be nearly £10k for that
crazy.gif

Yes, there will be membrane over all of the stone before the sand goes on.

Definitely going to have a good leveller, I'm not spending ages digging the sides in, lol
wink.gif

Haha, no the building hasn't even been started yet. Only the holes for the pillars have been dug. But it will only take 3 days for the building to go up and then a few weeks for the floor to be done. So we should be ready
crazy.gif

Grrr I want swivel mangers too..
grin.gif

What are the hay doors, do they open into the corners?
Have you asked Wiegersmas for a quote for the horse walker, they are normally much cheaper than anyone else, and their steel work is excellent, very similar to IAE, it was almost identical.
Now if your building isn't up yet IAE could let me have YOUR stables instead couldn't they? five of ours are 12 x 12 one is 12 x 16... ha ha...!
I'm ready now.....
