Just wondering what people prefer.

I keep my horses at home as we have an outdoor school, a couple of acres and stables, but I just keep my horses there (ie no liveries or other people to ride out with etc).

I love the RS yard I am on, dont think I could get used to either riding alone, or always with my sister. I love having loads of people to ride with

No comparison. I would keep my horse at home over any type of livery. Not bothered about riding with others - and having my own land would mean that Amy would be with me for a few more years.

If I had my own place with just me on it it would be lovely but if I wanted a morning off there would be nobody to help out, nobody t help me should I need it etc. On a livery hard there are plenty of people about to help and ride with but you have to put up with rules and you have to share the arena's!

Me too, keep them at my parent’s house. Just the three stables and three horses. Share with my sister but we have friends at the yard up the road to ride out with. Having been on Livery, i wouldn't change it for the world, plus it's cheaper!

I do want my own land, but preferably next to other people with horses. I think I'd get a bit lonely always being by myself.

own place all the way, wish I owned my own rather than renting, but can't find anywhere to buy locally!

My horses are at home but I have a friend who keeps her horse here too so she helps out if needed. I do hers when she's away and she'll do mine. I used to keep them on a livery yard and had a ball there too. Think I prefer them at home. I can check them last thing too.

I have always had my horses at home so have never had any experience of a livery yard. I like being able to do things my own way, my own grass management, being able to decided when I want the horses in and out, not worrying about things going missing, having the horses on my door step! But I do feel I really miss out on the advice and company you can get from a livery yard.

My lad is on a large livery yard (26 when full) 3 miles from my home. I have a paddock with two other horses & that's split to manage the grass. Good electric fencing around it. I can put him out & bring him in when I want. I have use of an indoor arena & outdoor menage & a jumping field. Additionally there are plenty of people there with knowledge if I have a problem & also someone who can help out with the lad if I need it.

I would love my own place, cannot afford it so this yard is the next best thing

I would never voluntarily go back to a yard.

It took me three times as long to do anything as I couldn't stop nattering

, it irritated me intensely when fences were broken and nobody seemed to give a monkeys and get off their backsides to mend them, my horse was a wimp and spent 50% of his time off work because he got bullied and injured. Bitchiness, back stabbing, atmospheres..............No Thanks not again.

No, I like my own space, to do things in my own time and in my own way without feeling (rightly or wrongly) that everything I did was being watched. I can leave them out, or bring them in as I wish. My horses are split into happy groups and I haven't had a single field injury in 6 months.

i have my own yard too & love it

best of all worlds really , a friends horse lives at mine too , love her & horse , we have facilities at our disposal exactly when we want them , no other liveries/horses that are a pain & no problem re hols etc as other horsey friends are always happy to come along & help out just as i'm happy for them to come here & use school have lessons etc

its kind of like being on a livery yard but without the bad bits , except having to do repairs myself!

I hated being on a yard, much prefer my own place ride when i want, nothing goes missing, dont have to que up to wash/bath, no one sniggering behind your back when you honestly say you had a bad day, you can leave your jumps out and at the height you want....

Oh sorry that turned into a bit of a rant, you can guess i didn't have a good experience and i think i chose the best yard in the area when i needed to use one (winter before my arena was built- prefer riding in the pi**ing rain on my own than sharing in an indoor)

Hmmmm tricky one - i am currently renting 8 acres with two stables me and a friend have a horse each and half own a pony who serves as a companion when the other horse is out! I love it there, nice and quite and no bitching BUT no facilities - no school, no electric....I have two wonderful friends that let me use their school so thats fab but the one downside is that i am not sure my horse is liking the peace - odd i know but when he is on box rest etc he is in on his own and cant see another horse (the stables dont face the field) and as he came from a racing yard i am not sure if he feels insecure?!

Should i move?

i`d love my own place but i love having a good chat and people to ride with so i`d probably say a livery yard

Ditto ! I don't like hacking by myself and my hubby doesn't ride. Saying that, my friend has her horses at home and she has lots of neighbours who have horses so they all hack out together.... would say it depends on the location.

I had my horses at home on their own and it was nice, but it was boring so I hardly did anything with them. I then got a few liveries and it was much better, this was the perfect situation. Now I have them at livery and I think I would rather this than keep them at home on their own again.

I used to keep my horse at home but we had nowhere to school, only some short bridleways. I found it a bit of a lonely existence, and although I loved spending so much time with Cass, I hardly ever rode and I now think that unless I've got the facilities, then it's better being on a yard (for me in my situation).
