Since we cannot cope with being entirely horse-less any longer, me and my sister have decided to try and find a horse (preferably one each in the same place!) to ride 1-2 times a week.

Looking for a pretty decent horse, so I expect the best way is to put notices up at good local livery yards, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any? We live in East London so it would ideally need to be Epping/Ilford/Loughton/Essex borders sort of way.

(And of course, if you know of anyone who is looking for some help with their horse, let me know! We really miss having horses and are happy to do anything from mucking out to schooling (would love to be able to take lessons) and general cuddling (!) - we are very experienced and reliable, and have had several horses of our own and competed up to 130cm classes in SJ. Ideally would like to ride one day at the weekend, and one during the week. I know I am asking for a lot, but if you don't try, you don't get... ;-)

I don't think you're asking for a lot. Sounds like you're very experienced and I'm sure there are lots of peeps who would be grateful for a day or two off from mucking out, etc in return for their horse being ridden by someone capable. Good luck!

Luckylocalian:

I am 31, my sister is 30, we are from Sweden and trained there for top trainers - all our competition experience from our late teens/early twenties - so obviously a while ago, but comp. experience quivalent to intermediate eventing on ponies, 130cm classes showjumping on horses, used to riding very different types of horses. We are 5ft3 and 5ft5, 8.5/9 stone.

Currently living in E8, go to London riding school for lessons once a week but getting slightly frustrated with it, we have also been to Ireland a few times in the past year for more intensive riding, particularly X country. Love everything to do with horses, want to always continue learning and improving, would love to be able to do lessons on a decent horse - absolutely happy to muck out, polish tack, groom etc!

Basically, I am thinking I will be needing some help over the next few months once grazing closes for the winter but am terrified (yes I really am - pathetic I know) as I have a big baby youngster (growing 17'2) and he is a little unpredictable (as youngsters are) and very very precious to me. I have spent a lot of money on lessons with decent trainers to try and make sure that he is started the right way and don't want to do anything to damage that groundwork. Obviously I don't know you and you could be amazing and 1000 times better rider than me (not hard btw) I would just like to see you in action first. He is my baby and I am wierd and overy protective but if it worked out could be great! Perhaps pm me and we could have a chat or let me know if you want my telephone number......

You could try putting up a notice at Eastwick Lodge in Harlow, or one at Harolds Park Farm - Nazing - very big yard, I used to be there and there are some very nice horses stabled.

Would offer you some riding/cuddling on mine, but don't think an aging clydesdale or a young gypsy cob are exactly what you would want - unless you suddenly convert to hairy horses
