I'm thinking of buying my first horse. However, I still have nowhere to keep it when I'm at uni in York and then when I'm back home in London. I would like to have stables that offered quite flexible livery services but at not too high of a price, I would also like somewhere where they would give guidance to first time owners and novice riders. I don't mind them using my horse during lessons either!
Thanks in advance

You will struggle to find anywhere that will let you take the horse between the two places without you paying to keep a place when the horse is in the other yard, the option of using for lessons also becomes an issue if it gets taken away for weeks on end so is only useful to them at certain times.
It would probably make most sense to wait until you have finished uni and are settled, spend the time until then developing your knowledge in preparation, join the uni riding club, maybe look for a share horse so you can do more with less commitment or decide where the horse is to be based, York or London, then look for a good riding school and see if working livery is an option so when you are away it can remain and still be looked after and exercised maybe not ideal but it would save the horse being moved regularly.

I had one livery that came to me during the holidays then went to uni with his owner during term time but she struggled to manage at times with the workload so he ended up staying most of the time here on full livery so his owner could concentrate on her uni work knowing that when she came home the horse was fit and ready to enjoy.

Thank you for responding so quickly! I was only planning to bring the horse back to London during summer as the only other time I leave uni is for a couple of weeks at Christmas. I looked into sharing but the only horses I saw in the York area that were close enough to the uni needed experienced riders and the riding school I've been at for the last couple of years wasn't particularly well structured so I'm more of a good hacker trying to start jumping! I've been in the uni riding club for the last year and that was absolutely great. Thank you for the advice, I'll look again into sharing if I can't find a good riding school with a working livery option! Do you by any chance know anything about Naburn Grange or are you based in London?
