Have posted in the SW board but not sure how many people go in there, so thought I'd try all of you in here.

Am looking for a livery yard in North bristol (i.e. Winterbourne to Chipping Sodbury area), good hacking and a school, and part/assisted DIY.

Am keeping an eye out on the Facebook groups but don't want to post anything on there as my current YO will see and will make life very difficult!

New(ish) to bristol and don't have any horsey friends so can't use word of mouth etc to find yards anymore - hoping someone on here may have some pointers.

Ones in that area that I know of but don't know anything about them, bar two:

Swallows Nest, back of Winterbourne - it's on a busy small road which is a commuter cut through route so hacking not great - roadwork
Leyland Court - much larger yard, lots of facilities - 3 schools, Derby and cross country course - depends on what you're looking for and I think only DIY and same problem with hacking
Oneway Livery, Moorend - lovely part-assisted (Mon-Fri mornings only) yard - again roadwork is not great but bearable - roadwork again
Hicks Common, Winterbourne
Westerleigh Stables, Westerleigh - hacking there is much better but a few years ago the school was in serious need of attention but part livery service was good.
Sunnymead Farm, Westerleigh - this yard has just started advertising livery again
Wapley Stables, Wapley - not sure if they are doing livery or just a riding school now
Grove Farm, near Parkfield/Pucklechurch
Hillyfields, Winterbourne
Old Sodbury - there is a DIY one there but don't know it's actual name and on doorstep of good hacking
Parks Farm, Tormarton - bit further out and may be too far - on edge of Badminton so you can imagine what the hacking is like!

I can add some more info on these ones....

Currently advertising spaces for mares only

Check re winter turnout... it changed management fairly recently but winter turnout used to be very limited

I've worked on this yard as holiday cover and would happily have my own horses there

Hicks Common, Winterbourne

Have friends there... long waiting list but nice and well run yard

Westerleigh Stables, Westerleigh - hacking there is much better but a few years ago the school was in serious need of attention but part livery service was good.

Ditto MD on this one

Sunnymead Farm, Westerleigh - this yard has just started advertising livery again

Personally I wouldn't, but it is a well set out yard with good facilities the last time I went there for a clinic

Wapley Stables, Wapley - not sure if they are doing livery or just a riding school now

Offers DIY, Part and Full... hay/haylage and some bedding is included in your livery. The Riding School is Mon, Weds, Fri and Sat, with liveries riding around lessons which are mostly done by 6ish on weekdays and by 4.30 on Saturdays (obviously some variation in times!)

Grove Farm, near Parkfield/Pucklechurch

Unfortunately she has just lost a lot of land due to the developers wanting it... not sure on spaces and the yard will almost certainly be closing at some point in the next few years

Hillyfields, Winterbourne

Not been here but have not heard anything bad

In that area there is also Tudor (personally... barge + pole...), I may be able to put you in contact with a friend with a stable on a fantastic professional yard in Chipping Sodbury, also Mousewell Farm, Hollisters, and a friend has a yard in Abson which is slightly out of area but not horrifically so.

Thanks miss_c :) may take you up on the offer of being put in contact with your friends (although horse and I aren't quite pros.. yet!)

Yep, have similar thoughts on Tudor (shared a horse up there for a while...shocking to say the least!)

Hi- sorry to jump in on your thread... I am looking a yard in pretty much the same area, so really pleased to have found your posts :) they're all really helpful! Does anyone have any contact details for Park Farm, Tormarton? Not having much fun finding them online unfortunately. Ideally I'm looking for a small private yard, so I would love to take miss_c up on her offer (even though it wasn't offered to me-sorry!)... I'd love to know as its so hard to find private pro yards :)

Just wondering if you friend in Chipping Sodbury does livery or do you know of any other places that do?

Parks farm has space I think. It's split into 2 yards - 1 side is DIY/assisted with herd turn out, the other side is managed separately as part/full livery (Charing cross equine) with individual/pair turnout. Both share the same school. Cheap and cheerful option, a little run down, some compromises but on the whole a good bunch of people on both yards.

Have you got contact details for Park Farm?
