I would like to get some new clippers for the winter. I currently have the Heineger Xplorers but I don't get on with them and they don't seem to give the best clip. I have the Liveryman Harmony Plus Trimmers but was considering getting the Pheonix for full body clips as I've heard these are very good. Does anyone have any recommendations or views on these? Any other recommendations appreciated also! I have 1 horse and 1 pony. My horse will probably be clipped every 4 weeks at times through the winter and maybe the pony too.

I've just bought the Phoenix clippers and really like them. I had Heiniger Progress before, my first set lasted years (before I managed to burn out the motor by not cleaning out the filter properly for too long, d'oh), which I replaced with the Progress Style (because they were on offer and I assumed they were the same thing....... they were rubbish - whatever I tried with tensioning, new & freshly sharpened blades etc, they kept clogging up so easily - sent them back for a replacement in case I was just unlucky with a dodgy set, but the replacement was just the same)
Anyway, I digress - the Phoenix are a heavy duty clipper and in a different league to my old Heinigers. They go through my shetland coats like a hot knife through butter, and they're easy to tension. Battery life seems good, and they really do stay just as powerful until the battery runs out. They're also easy to clean which is a bonus! Also loving cordless but that's just personal preference. For the money they seem like a really good option

In the Heiniger Xplorers and the Liveryman Harmony Plus clippers you already have two of the best cordless clippers on the market. I also have both.

You can get wide blades for the Harmonies, have you tried those? That way the Harmonies will easily do a full clip.

I had the Heiniger Xplorers and I didn't get on with them either, funny because my friend loves them!
I also have the harmony plus and now use wide blades with them and do all my clipping. I clip to horses out full with them, no problem. The Pheonix do look like lovely clippers!

I'm also interested in feedback on the Phoenix. I have the Harmony with the wide blade but I have a hairy native with an exceptionally thick coat that needs a full clip fortnightly in winter and whilst they can do it, when done with 'proper' clippers it only takes a third of the time - and when it's that frequent it adds up

The Phoenix are excellent. They replaced my Xplorers and are much easier to use, plus they give a better finish despite me being a rubbish clipper! I wish I’d done it sooner as I’d battled on with the Xplorers for years.

I’ve got the phoenix and they seem pretty powerful with good balance and seem to leave a good finish. I did only do a reclip with them though so can’t comment on how they go through really thick hair.

I think a company who hired out clippers would get good business with both used and new clippers. I understand the issues with new clippers but it could really work with used on a basis like the saddle bank. You would have to fully service them and give some sort of warranty

I feel like the Harmonys are so tiny to be able to do a full clip?!

I have the Heineiger Sapphirs with the wide blade and they do both my natives. My Dartmoor gets a really thick coat and they just glide through his coat.

I still use my 50 year old electric Listers which glide through my mare's coat. I can hunter clip her in half an hour. I appreciate though that cordless is probably more convenient for people especially if you dont have electric at a yard. I also have a pair of Hauptners that I bought in 2000 which are good but can be very fiddly to get the tension right.

I have many many clippers 😂

My current favourites for body are the Liveryman Phoenix. They are easier to hold than my Heiniger Xplorers and give a much better finish. For legs I use the Wahl KMC+ which are phenomenal. I wouldn't personally do a full clip with them (too small for a hairy cob) but for legs, hogging, getting youngsters used to the sound and feel of clipping they are brilliant.
