Im looking to purchase some clippers but not wanting to spend loads. The cheapest ones i found are the Liveryman Element clippers which seem to look ok. Does anyone use these clippers or know if they are any good?

Also is ther any other clippers i should think about purchasing? any help is much appreciated as i dont know much about them, thanks.

They are good little trimmers...I have some and really they are best suited for trimming. I would say they are not really up to clipping as the head is narrow and they are very very fine. Like surgical to the skin fine.

Having said that I do know of someone who had clipped with them and she was happy, but I think the horse was a bit clipper shy and they are nice and quiet.

I have some Moser Avalon clippers these are classed as light use clippers I only have 1 horse to do.

I have done a full clip with them and hogged my cob and trimmed his legs, not all on the same day, the blades managed 1 trace clip before going blunt though, it was on a horse with a very thick coat. I can usually get 2 x hogs and legs out of a set of blades.

They are small and light weight and the mains ones are around £120. Blades about £28 a set and are snap on so easy to use. Sharpening around £6 per blade. Would advise always having a sharpened pair in reserve in case you get 3/4 through a clip and they go blunt!

Have always used Clippersharp (look on web) and they have been great, always do a quick turn around on the blades, by post. Only thing I would say is I wish I had got cordless clipers, only because it's a bit of a pain getting near a power point at my yard and I have to use an extension lead, also always concerned the horse will stand on the lead or I will trip up on it! Always use a power breaker though!! The cordless ones are about £170 then again at that price you may want to consider more heavy duty mains clippers??

Try calling Clippersharp too as they are really helpful and friendly and will prob give you some good advice as to what will suit your needs.
Hope that's of some help!!

Sorry dont know others as merlin is phobic so not worth buying

I only bought the liveryman ones as i thought they may be a magic answer to his problem.... I use them for the dog now!!!

Yeh i would consider mains or cordless its not really a problem. I wouldnt be using them much to be honest so i dont know if its worth spending a lot of money on them.

I use my Livery Elements to clip my cobs legs and do a bib clip and they do the job fine (although if the feathers are long, I snip most of them off with scissors first). They are nice and lightweight and quiet too.

E Bay is a double edged sword, you can see lots of apparent bargains, but the problem with the unbranded ones is that if they break! and trust me even branded clippers break, you will not be able to get spares or repairs and you will be left with a pile of scrap. Buy from someone in the UK, especially recommend the likes of Clippersharp, Clippers HG, HCS etc. They have been going for years and sell stuff they trust, because they have to repair it. People who offer no repair service are often happy to market complete crap, because they will never see it again.
