I have had mine about 10 years and touch wood never had a thing go wrong with them. They are very strong clippers although pehaps abit noisey compared to some of the newer models. They are the only ones I have ever used so hard to compare really, but really like mine.
Great, thanks. I think I borrowed a set last year to clip with (but can't remember exactly what they were!).
I am not too worried about them being too noisy or heavy as I only have Spring to do, more interested in reliability, parts etc.
There a quite a few of these around, some parts from the wolseley Harrier will fit, if you get stuck. Main things to be aware of are Keep the filters very clean and check were the collar holds the head on. It locates against a ridge on the body, which can wear, so check the head is a tight fit plus find out the last time they had a set of brushes. Because the motor needs to be split to fit a new set and many people leave it too late which will wear the armature away and be expensive. Also like many clippers, they are prone to mains lead failure, just under the sleeve at the back. Nothing serious, just requires cutting about 6 inches of the lead and re fitting it at service.
I am planning to do 1 or 2 clips this winter then send them away to be serviced in the spring. Everything seems to be tight on them and there are no marks/breaks to the cable, they are only about 2 1/2 years old. Fingers crossed that they are ok.
