Living out with a Snuggy Hood???

Ok totally random but...............

I really want to get the little dude a set of jams! Only problem is at the moment I have trouble keeping him in his stable so might have to winter out. (He rears up etc so its not safe, no where to attach a top door to his stable either)

So the main question is would they be a total waste of money, all his out door rugs have necks which can be attached to them but what happens if the rain gets inside, will he be a soggy pony????

Please bare with me on this I'm looking for an excuse to spend pennies!! :D
 
You can turn out with a snuggy hood on but you will need 2 or 3 sets. They do get wet even with a rug neck cover so you would need to change the hood every day at least and probably wash it. I use them to keep my lad clean but I'm not sure they would do such a good job of keeping him warm if they get wet.
 
Can't advise on having one on a pony living out 24 x 7 - haven't seen it and would be concerned about it slipping. Having said that, I have just ordered one for the mud monster but he is only out for part of the day and yard is peopled all the time.

However, hurry up if you are going to buy a hood - Snuggle are offering a reduction on hoods bought over the bank holiday weekend!
 
The wet thing is deterring me, I only live a mile from our yard but I don't want him to be soggy. I might get some incase he changes his naughty ways and starts to like his stable! I really am sitting here thinking 'he'll look so cute'! I know I'm sad but OH is non horsey so he doesn't understand how these things are a necessity (sp)! I have the urge to spoil him as he's being really good at the minute! hmmmm :)
 
The pjs you choose what bottom bit to have on them when you place the order so one is fabric the other is waterproof so as long as you had a rug on top its fine as the belly bit would be waterproof. As for the hood i add snuggy hood pj's with her lycra hood on top and never had a issue.

This is the answer I was hoping for, never had a pony who lived out 24/7 so worried about keeping him cozy and warm even though he is a welsh cob and has always lived out without rugs! (I'm a worrier and he will be clipped for the first time!!)
 
Not sure about being out 24/7 in it, only thing I would be concerned about is getting wet and slipping. A mare at work rolled in hers and caused it to slip across her face, rubbing against her eye, ended up with quite a nasty eye infection so would advise if turned out 24/7 in to check regularly. I'm a bit wary about using them now.

If he is a welsh cob he should cope without one even when clipped though, our TB's do, just get a rug with a hood :)
 
A proper well fitting snuggy hoods turnout hood, not some cr*ppy copy will be fine, although I would have two for washing etc. The turnout hood is heavy shower proof and can be further proofed by washing with nikwax reproofer or similar. I've had both of mine live out in them with no problems. Cheap lycra hoods are a disaster though!

I know I'm used to 'poor do'ers'. I have purchased one and he will only wear in in doors. I have plenty newly aquired horseware rugs, duvets and under rugs which should do the job whilst he's in the field! :o
 
Thanks CM I have ordered 3 turnout hoods a 2 sets of jams with turnout bellys. I will get onto ebay now and proof the turnout ones again when they arrive.

Thanks to all who've helped me in my difficult descision to spend even more pennies haha. :)

My disgusting mud monster lives out in his hood for part of the winter, I do tend to bring in at night from Jan on but from being clipped, or from the start of the rain/mud. He is an ex racer, and simply loves wallowing, he also has a most un thoroughbred mane, more like an exmoor pony which he loves filling with thick mud dreadlocks. Without his hood it would take me hours to clean him enough to actually put a bridle on. I had ears put on it last year as he excelled in sqeezing mud through the ear holes. I have the full Zipped version which has never moved, despite his wallowing habbits. I have never had a problem with him being wet underneath despite it being used in very wet conditions.

He looks soo happy with his little self too! I am laughing out loud and my patronising 2yr old daughter had joined in with the most fake laugh you could imagine!
 
Flying Solo, he makes his own wallow on a daily basis. Goes into the field and splashes the mud with his fore legs until it is liquid and deep enough to get him in, then he will drop to the floor and roll and roll, grinding his body into the ground. Frequently does it as he sees me walking to the field to get him. little sod definitely has a sense of humour!!
