I've a 20 y/o companion rescue on loan from a charity. The charity got him to their site by herding him and his pals onto a big truck - when I collected him it took over an hour of rearing/ spinning etc. That was almost 6 years ago and he's had no need of going in a trailer since.

Sadly we have to move house at some point in the next few months so do I spend weeks/ months properly training him to be happy with the trailer for one trip or just be prepared for a one off fight.

And would you travel him on his own or with his mate (who competes regularly so loads perfectly)

I would get someone experienced to help you with the training. I the person is skilled it would probably only be a couple of sessions, starting with ground work and moving on to the trailer.
You never know when you may need to trailer your horse, such as to the vet, or in case of flood/ fire...... Plus the ground work will probably enhance your understanding and skills with the horse to both your daily benefits.
