Loan a horse- never again

Sorry to anyone that reads this, as it will probably turn into a bit of a rant as i am super annoyed!! We collected our loan horse two weeks ago, after a few teething problems in the first week ( due to lack of turn out really) the said pony seemed to be settling in well, her and my daughter's were already starting to form a bond, still not perfect ridden, but she is a young pony( younger than i had first thought) and they are still learning ( confident novices). I thought with the instruction put in place they would form a good partnership, only to last night receive a text message from the owner saying she had heard bad reports from the yard and was taking her back tonight (reports being that they were riding her fast in the arena), now don't get me wrong i don't doubt they were at times a little quick, but some of it was total rubbish as i was there at times mentioned grrr . Not sure if i feel better now lol but i thought contracts were put in place to protect all parties not just the owner? Time to resume pony hunting this time definatly to buy!!.
 
Presumably you have spoken to the owner by phone (NOT text) and explained? Surely she must realise that a young pony with two young girls is going to take some getting used to, and the fact that you have instructors in place?

Perhaps you are better off without an owner like this, but I guess your girls will be broken hearted. Good luck with your pony search.

Loaning is a minefield and im so glad mine just lets me get on with it (touch wood)

Tried she would not take my call, her friend recently (fri) moved back on to yard so do know where source is also , the most annoying thing is she is not even in the same block, when the girls were apparently " tazzing her around and jumping her wildly" they were in a lesson with no jumps in the arena just trotting poles which were there as markers to make them ride into the corners, and to say the owner is the 1 who told the girls to do there own thing and take no notice of anyone else on a yard i find laughable, i suppose on the plus side your right at least it early doors, was just heart breaking to see their reaction :(
 
What a shame, however coming from the owner side of things its so worrying at times to loan a pony and not quite know whats going on and then hear rumours etc I would have a heart to heart with the owner, if that doesnt work best of luck finding a new pony for your girls.
 
Sounds like you'll be better off without the owner of that pony. If she can't even do you the common courtesy of calling/popping over for a chat to see what's happening (all she needs to do is ask how they're getting on and say she's heard X, what's your view on it) then I wouldn't want her pony.

I loaned out a horse a few years ago and the loaners were wonderful. Once I visited (my own fault as didn't visit often enough) to find he was obese so we did have a chat about that, but I tried to phrase it along the lines of "you see him every day so maybe it creeps up on you and you don't notice, shall we have a chat about what he's eating and his workload?" rather than "you've made my horse fat, I'm taking him away".

Loaning has to be about give and take from both parties for it to work, IMHO. I've also loaned two horses and it can work.
 
Chalk it up to experiance an owner has every right to take a pony back if not happy whether it's fair or justified or not.
However I think it's really rude not to discuss it with you .
