Will it be okay filling in the blanks by hand ie address and name of loaner - i havent got there address and i cant get hold of them via phone will it be okay filling them in by hand tonight when they get him?? (bhs loan agreement)

Yes, but they need to bring proof of their address for you to see. So keep trying to get them on the telephone....

Have you been to the yard where the horse is going to??

.

Do you know their full name and have a rough idea of where they live? If so you can try using 192.com to search for their address. But I would ditto the advice to make sure they bring a utility bill to prove they live where they claim - too many ponies go 'missing' on loan for you to risk missing out this vital check.

Hi, i havent no, but i know my horsey friends all know her well and say the place where he is going is lovely, she keeps them at home. I also know the place where she works and have a rough idea where she lives - about 5 mile away. She is quite well known around here and has a good rep

so i do trust her.

I have to say that as the potential home is only 5 miles away, I am surprised you have not visited it, to make sure it is OK. I cannot believe you are handing over a pony without physically checking the place yourself. It does not matter how many friends tell you the lady's reputation is good. Nor does it matter that you know where she works, none of this will help you if the pony goes missing.

It is really worth doing the checks, I have heard of loans in circumstances just like yours going wrong - do not be complacent over this.

Okay, you guys have me worried now!
I will suggest going to visit there place tomorrow to see how he is settling in

We live in a very small community and everyone knows each other (or of) so its easier to trust people esp those who know her personally, plus i know the kids go to the same school as mine.....except i never see th parents as they get the school bus.

I presume you are going to be visiting him on a regular basis to check he is OK? It is really important however well-recommended the loaner is. I once loaned to someone who seemed really nice and was actually on the same yard as me, but she still let the horse lose condition and get rain scald and I had to take it back. God knows what condition it would have ended up in if I hadn't been keeping an eye on it.

Sadly a number of horses dissapear while on loan never to be seen again.

Before allowing your horse to go on loan have your horse Freezemarked on the shoulder (so that it can be seen when ridden) and also micro-chipped to the new European standard micro-chip standard.

Ask to see an original copy of the Passport, Driving Licence, Rates Bill and a utility bill and photocopy them.

The BHS loan agreament needs to be checked by a solicitor before getting two copies signed and dated by both parties.

The horses passport must go with the horse so always photocopy it and keep the copy in a safe place with the above.

Always check out wher the horse is going to be kept.

If you do not do the above then you are effectively giving the horse away rather than loaning it.

You also need to keep in regular touch to ensure that all is going well.

Peoples circumstances can change quite suddenly and they can dissapear leaving the loan horse to fend for itself. This is why it is so important to feezemark and Microchip the horse so that it's owners can always be found.

Also register it on the NED website (National Equestrian Database).

Yeah she called earlier and i told her all the pointers on the agreement ie limited grazing during the summer, turned out with at least one other horse etc and she was fine with it. Shes told me exactly what will be happening with him and where he will be going, checking it all out tomorrow
