Loan contract broken - horse not vaccinated, can't affiliate - sue!

Hi, does anyone know how much a horse is de valued by no longer being able to be affiliated. I had a horse on loan that the people wanted to affiliate, he had 4 continuous years of injections so this was not a problem. He came home as the were not able to take care of him properly and they have not vaccinated him, so now, although I have a buyer for him, she wants to do affiliated dressage and has consequently walked away from the sale. Horse is 8 years old and was ready to affiliate to dressage. Your comments would be much appreciated.
 
Why can't she just restart the course of vaccinations?

After the first two, you can compete.....they can be given three weeks apart (if I recall).

Don't see what the big fuss is. If I was you I'd get the vet out to start the course.
 
Not much, given they could be out competing again in less than a month.
You have to start the course again but can start competing after the 2nd injection which can be be given as little as 21 days after the first one. So basically all I would drop in price is what it would cost for 2 sets of vaccinations - £100 maybe?
 
If you had a loan contract then i would still make them cough up for the extra injections you will have to pay out for
 
I had a clause in my loan contract saying that if she missed the date for RC (which is 365 days not 1 calendar yr!) she had to restart the course. I am amazed someone walked away from a sale just due to vaccinations - after all in 21 days or so she could be out competing, not much in the grand scheme of things, and frankly I find the whole thing hard to believe as I have never ever seen a passport checked BD anyway. The only people who check religiously are RC.
 
I think the buyer was just using it as an excuse not to buy your horse. Just because a horse's vaccinations have lapsed would not stop someone buying a horse if they were truly interested.

I adapted the BHS loan agreement to take account of this eventuality if it should happen, basically the loaner would be liable for the cost of restarting the vaccinations if they let them lapse. However that wouldn't solve a short term issue like yours. On the face of it, if the buyer has walked away on something that really isn't a major issue, maybe they weren't the right person for your horse.
 
As tasteofchaos says - what's the problem here? My pony's vaccinations ran out (was mad as my fault!

) so I simply had to start again. Cost - an extra two visits and jabs. Not really sure why the person walked away! It's not even a month you have to wait as far as I recall.
 
Horses do not have to be vaccinated under BD rules. They will however need to be vaccinated to compete at some venues including Stoneleigh for the National Champs. No big deal just restart the course and have the 3 jabs at the appropriate intervals.

And British Riding Clubs, we had a team of three eliminated SJ due to a horse being one day out of date!

But, I agree, just start the course again, it's not a problem (except for the cost!)

The horse is not "no longer able to be affiliated". You just have to re-start the vaccinations. Why would you think you can't affiliate the horse because the vaccs have lapsed? People buy unvaccinated horses all of the time - they just get the vet out to start the jabs again. My pony was unvaccinated when I bought him.

Mine was on loan and they missed the vaccinations, so they agreed to pay to re-start the course, so that was quite decent of them really.

Your buyer is being silly, or wants an excuse not to buy.
