Loan horse - passport problem

I'm having a bit of a dilemma. The horse I have on loan has been sold (loan is ending immediately), and while I was loaning the horse I paid for her to be passported as her owner hadn't had her done. I'm the holder of the passport, is it now unreasonable to ask the owner for the money I paid for it, as the horse is being sold?

If you had the loan horse for a while, got on with the loaber and were advised of the sale and it was all very amicable then i would drop it

If the loan was short and the horse whipped out from under you then i would be cheesed off and ask them to pay
