my mare is out on loan as i couldnt bear to sell her. ive had her over 5 years and broke her myself
there is nothing wrong with her in the slightest, shes only 9, 15hh sound, happy, never napped, bucked or reared in her life, brill in traffic/shoe/clip etc, dressages up to novice (but NOT above! as i discovered!) and jumps for the joy of it.
she is purely out on loan as she had reached as high as she could go in the competative dicipline that i wanted to do and i felt that she would enjoy a less stressful more 'fun and games' type home - and thats what she has.
also sometimes loaning can be good as if the horse is really happy then you can offer a sale, and you really know what you are selling to.
i know and im really pleased i wrote this post as it has helped me i want a long term loan and would like to buy eventually if owner wants to sell its just finding one,atm i just havnt got a few grand spare to buy !!
never heard about a bad story with a loan horse. only heard horror stories about either the people loaning the horse or the owners of the horse. mostly i've seen horses out on loan due to the owners circumstances changing not the fact they're unable to sell them. why do u think dealers do so well? they buy the hard to sell types cheap and sell them.
Oh I have. I've heard of loads of bad stories with loan horses. Any horses I've known personally who have gone out on loan, have been unsaleable or damaged in some shape or form.
I also know of some nice stories though and even from the horses I've known personally, in lots of those situations they actually ended up with experienced loan people who knew what they were doing and the problems with the horses didn't bother them.
I initially took a horse on loan as I was unwilling to purchase him because of a blemish...however after 2 months I asked to buy him. He was a great horse!
He was a really lovely horse though. I only had him for 2 years and then sold him when I moved here - I wouldn't have sold him otherwise as he was such a wonderful chap and he would have loved it over here, but because of his blemish I really didn't feel that it was the kindest thing to do to ship him out here with our other pony, so I found him a wonderful forever home.
my bros legs are 34 inch and hes 6 foot 4 so are you nearlly that ??
do you still keep in touch with his owner to see how he is getting on ? what part of england did you use to live in ?
Oh no! He was strictly English - XC and showjumping.
I bred my own Anglo Arab for my western riding, had him for 13 years and felt the same about him being shipped out here, so sold him to a fantastic home too.
Ah no not that tall. I'm only 5'8 - I just have very long legs LOL!!
I lived in Hampshire. I kept in touch with his owner for a while and she adored him, but haven't spoken for a while now. My buyer of my homebred has always kept in touch with me.
im only 5,4 !! dunno where my bro got his height from im sure talk about looking up to someone and hes 5 years younger than me lol !!
im in dorset did you ever come down this way to compete etc ?
Oh jeez Pixie; I was looking at some photos the other day and you know I don't think there is ANY hope for me! Way more than half of the photos showed me in teeny flippy-floppies.
I had loads of me riding without any footwear on
.
One day, when I am even older and wrinklier, I am bound to be stood on and it'll totally serve me right! I think I am just so used to dealing with them without proper footwear on that it must just be ingrained in my subconscious to be careful, but to be honest I really don't even think about it.
its a small world isnt it !!
i will continue my search for my perfect partner and hope i find one as lovely as your old boy !!
my horses i have brought in the past have been lovely i think ive lost my touch in finding good ones !!!!

I know exactly what you mean. When I had horses most of the time I went in the fields to get them I would either be in flipflops or barefoot
I only got stood on barefoot once, but luckily not heavily and she was barefoot too, so no harm done, and it didn't change my ways!
Im terrible for it too, I often go to the yard in my trainers, like today, and ahem, yesterday too, Nikes dont have quite the same protection! I never seem to get stood on though...touches a huge piece of wood!
me to always in trainers when i go down the yard mind you its a 10 second walk from my back door lol so just swap shoes if i ride although dont do that either ride in trainers as well !!!
Looks of good horses do get put out on loan for various reasons, as you are in the south have you looked at www.nfed.co.uk they have a for loan and loans wanted section.
I always use it to find loaners for my horse as I don't ride her much myself these days and I always get a good response.
hi burtie thanks, yes i look on nfed about 10 times a day and all the other sites i can think of and have been for months untill this one came up and now hes gone again im back on them, just cant find anything yet !!
most have to stay at current yard or that they are to far away, also im limited as im only looking for a gelding !!!
