I am looking for a horse on loan at the moment and i started thinking about passports.
When i had a horse on loan previously (about 5 years ago) i am sure we didnt have his passport- but then i dont think the law of not selling/not travelling a horse without its passport exsisted then.
I was wondering what happens when you loan a horse now? do you take the passport? but does that not mean that people could claim the horse was theres and steal it?

You have to have the passport but remember a passport is NOT proof of ownership. Name on passport doesn't get changed and remains in owners name.

The passport should be with the horse but if the owners have any sense they will photocopy absolutely everything to do with their horse, passport, tack, everything and get you to sign and date each page of those copies as well as them, that way there is no get out for you not knowing something belongs to them if that makes sense. Also, with the insurance, providing they are still paying it, or even if you are paying it, you should be down as the keeper but the owner's name and address should be noted with the company as to who should have the payout if anything awful were to happen. Always better to get these things sorted at the start, you know where you all stand then.

! It was meant that anyone loaning or being loaned should have those things done as a matter of course!
I hope I didn't offend you - me and my big mouth!
