At the moment i loan out my mare 3 days a week for the person to do what she wants on her have said if she wants to go to shows etc dont mind taking her. Person only rides ive only asked her to poo pick when i went on holiday so she really only does ride, groom and spend time with horse. For this i said £20 a week which is much less than what i used to pay when i loaned a horse a few years ago. Looked at other adverts and seemed right price.

Now person has said she cant afford to loan at that price anymore. So i have 3 opitions

- find another share person (i have youngster so need someone to hack my safe mare with us next year)

- keep person and let her ride for free until i can find someone else maybe

- reduce the price and ask her just to maybe pay for shoes every 6 weeks or so which would be £10 a week just under

In 2 months time i would have finished paying all my vets bills so money then wouldnt be a issue at all until then im on a tight budget. This mare has to be ridden every day due to spavins and is easy to ride however not easy to handle all the time however saying that the person has never had a issue with her at all so maybe she has calmed down now.

If im asking for too much money let me know as well please.

Thanks

I don't think your asking too much money however it is hard at the moment to get a decent sharer. It's taken me from Feb until a month ago to get one suitable for my horse and she's not that hard to handle or ride just not suitable for novices (forward going, bucks, would take the mic with a novice). It depends if you need the money or the help I guess. For me at the moment, and foreseeable future, I need the extra money, at the moment more so than the help.

I've generally found it harder to get a sharer in winter too. You may be lucky but if I was you I'd probably either ask her to stay until you get someone else or reduce the price a bit as you said you need the horse to be ridden everyday and that's obviously a priority.

When I part loaned a horse all we paid for was shoes every 6 weeks. A lot of people also do this up at our yard aswell perhaps ask her to do some yard duties aswell if she gets to ride for cheaper.

When i advertised i had 3 replys and let the person who replyed first come and see her and try her out and the person was nice and got on well so let her have her. However like you say winter is near now so will be harder to find someone.

Money wise need the money for next 2 months at most in ideal world may be able to get some extra hours at work to cover it. But then cant ride as much no its getting darker and working 2 jobs so only have 3hrs in daytime to get 3 horses sorted out and done.

Im glad you think im not charging too much that was my fear.

That was what i was thinking if we stay in normal shoes then its £63 every 6 weeks however if vet says back to special shoes again then its £100 so works out more money.

I would say pay for the price of shoes then and if he needs special shoes again speak to her about it and see if she would rather go back to £20 a week or ask her to do more yard duties.

I would say it all boils down to how much you like this person and how good/reliable she is.
£20pw is not a lot of money, but I would rather get less and have a good sharer than get more and have a bad one ....

thanks i have emailed her saying that if she wants to keep loaning then would she be happy to pay costs of shoes. Have also placed some adverts up online as well if it doesnt work out.

Look at it this way - she wouldn't get one ride a week at a riding school for £20. Its cheap.

However, I agree with the person who said its not easy to find a good sharer that you like.......
