i have a 12.2h mare that is 5yo that i am thinking of loan/share. i bought her for my nephew to ride when he gets a bit bigger. she is 100% to do in all ways and ponys like this are hard to come by so i snapped her up quick. problem is my daughter was riding her although she 16yo she is a size O so weight is no issue and she is not tall. BUT this pony loves to jump and will hack for ever and i feel she is missing out. she should be doing P/C etc. i am thinking of a loan to stay at my own yard ( so i know where she is) but what do i charge for. stable etc

thanks

I was in the same situation as you when I was young, except I was the lucky loanee!

When I outgrew my first pony ability wise, we swapped her with a 13.2 jumping speed demon from a family who had bought her whilst they had the chance rather than let her get away.
She was much too fast for their kids though and they wanted to let her keep doing what she loved so they gave her to me on loan for a few years and my old pony got to go look after toddlers again, which is what she was really best at.

It was a really good solution as when I outgrew her she went back to her own home and they also bought my first pony off of me

Must she really stay at your yard? Before I bought Henry I looked at horses to loan and the one thing that put me off was an advert stating "must stay at own yard". I have perfectly good facilities at my yard and wanted a horse to be with me. I would imagine that any good PC type family worth their salt would have the facilities in place to cope with housing a pony. The BHS do a very good loan contract on their website, which I would always advise using whether for a month's loan or a year. It's harder to find "sharers" and come to some agreeable arrangement. Perhaps the best solution is to loan the pony to someone close by on the understanding that you can visit whenever you feel like?

most definately has to stay at my yard. i know of someone who was in my last yard and he had about 7 horses and said they all belonged to him. he has left the yard now and a couple of weeks ago one of the "owners" turned up and it turns out he got it on loan and he has sold it to a local dealer. she is a totally unspoilt mare and whilst my daughter could still ride her i think its sad that she is not out doing shows and i know that she is perfect for any child LR or first, second pony. i know that there is some good homes out there but i am not prepared to take the risk.

We did our swop through the Pony Club so we knew the other family were ok

The horse I ride is kept on her owners yard and it's not a problem at all so I don't think it will put the right type of person off

Good luck xx

I hope you dont mind me butting in Captain but she's also a really good companion to Captain's in foal mare. It looks a bit weird seeing such a small pony with this huge horse but they're really the best of friends. I think thats why its a good idea to keep her at the yard.

thanks harlequin_Ro. who would my mare groom if little pony was not at the yard. i take it your still bored at work then
