Hi looking for some advice please. I've been asked if would like to part loan/ share a horse which is on working livery. The owner has told me to offer her a price per month but I really don't know how much I should be offering. She is paying for everything in return for me riding 3 times a week. Help please!?!

I think the going rate is £10 per day. However, if the horse is on working livery I would find out how much he is going to be ridden by other people too.

The going rate depends on where you live - its closer £25 per day here (Surrey close to London).

You need to know if this is a part loan or share as the financial arrangements are different. It reads like a share - but it is prudent to check. If the horse is also on working livery you need to find out how available it actually is to you to ride. Will it be used in classes as well on the days you ride? Often with working livery you find that the horse isn't always available to you when you want it because it is booked in to lessons. Or it is tired because it has already been used in lessons. In working livery the owner is already paying a lower livery rate - in effect already being paid once for the use of the horse. I would be slightly wary of paying again, especially if the horse's availability is limited.

That said - it can be a good way to start the experience of horse ownership - just don't be afraid to move on to a private arrangement when you feel confident enough.

You should find out how much she is paying first then offer.
I live in South Wales and for full loan I pay £15 a week, and for part loan it's £10.
I have full loan and basically he is treated like he is my own horse, I pay everything so £15 for the week for livery and then I pay £20 a month for trim and then I got halfs with another lady for a Bale so approx £10 a time. As the horse is on working livery id be abit aware of the fact even if you had him on full loan he wouldn't be completely yours he will still be ridden by other people. I'd look into maybe puting him on diy livery and you paying for that? There's lots of different options for you to look into.

Bombaybuddy that sounds really cheap!! I guess it varies depending on whereabouts you are.

I'm in the midlands, pony I am loaning is also on working livery but he hardly gets used (hes not really a novice ride) and owner doesn't ride him at all. I am paying £30 a week and usually ride 3 x a week but I could go more if I wanted to. Mine does lessons tues and thurs evening so I ride him weds, sat and sun currently so he gets 2 days off a week.

If I were you I would check what days he will be available to ride, and then make an offer that you feel comfortable with. I know that I am probably not even paying half of my ponies livery cost but owner was happy to have him being used more, and pleased with my contribution as it reduces her bill.

Good luck!
