I've been looking for a few days now, not long I know but haven't really seen any horses that have offered this, they're either for sale and state 'NO LOANS!' or are full loan but wouldn't consider selling. I know it's difficult to trust people but surely if the right person came along and a decent contract was signed then it shouldn't be a huge hassle? What's people's views on this? I know there was a similar post regarding paying in installments but I think being prepared to loan first shows that there is the commitment there in the first place.

I think alot of people would prefer to sell if they are selling and loan if not - to keep things simple. tbh I think on loan with a view to buy would only be really applicable to high priced horses - but even then unlikely. The cost of the legal side would be the issue - the contact would need to cover every thing including what if the horse gets injured by you then you dont buy it and it lossing all use and has vet bills - so complex!

In this day and age there are alot of horses which go missing on loan so thats another reason why people would be against it. I would avoid it if I was selling or buying.

One avenue to go down would be to place your own ad 'wanted loan with view to buy.' It is certainly worth a try. Obviously the owner would expect you to insure the horse when in your care.

I would never do a loan with a view to buy. A person could come & try my horse several times & then decide if they want to buy, but I certainly wouldn't loan the horse out. There are too many things that can go wrong, a horse can be ruined in a very short space of time.

I'd never loan either, the horse goes out, gets injured & it's back to you to pay all the bills on a horse broken by someone else. You also have the hassle of finding somewhere to keep the horse at very short notice when the loaner decideds to send the horse back.......no I'd straight sell everytime.

i don't understand why people think sellers will happily wave their horse off that is likely to be worth several thousand pounds on the understanding that is the loanee/buyer bu**ers the horse up they can bring it back and wash their hands of it!

i am happy for people to try the horse as many times as they like, in as many different situations and happy for them to hack out, ride at shows etc but all under my supervison.

Yeh a bit of a tricky one. Having been 'turned over twice' and am now stuck with an unsound spooky 16.hh mare, I would love to have a horse on trial. But I can understand people not wanting to do it. To be honest dont whether I would do it.

I do understand where you're coming from but I don't have the funds right away so would take a few months to save up. This doesn't mean that I wouldn't be able to afford vets bills though just that I don't have a massive bank balance at this moment in time. Interesting to here everyone's views though.
