loaner not turning up

as above loaner took horse on loan 3 days a week £15 and muck out, she is a good rider and within a couple of weeks wanted to cut days down and now its one day at £10 +muck out and not always turning up ( did text) however again I have just finished nightshift to find text that she cant make it,( text sent 03.22) dont know what to do as I would like someone dependable.

we have had that problem. Iguess that's why people share/loan - because they don't want the full responsibility of a horse.
I have also had texts sent at half 4 (time she's expected at yard) to say cant come up.
( I went mad the oter day when 1 of the sharers didnt give my pony any mix in his feed just cos she couldnt be bothered to gat a new bag from the barn- she didnt even text me to ask what if there was any more)
So, we have decided to put our pony on FULL loan, rather than the 2 sharers we have at the mo (sharers worked ok when my lil sis rode the pony- but now outgrown him)

Anyway- about your problem, did you sign a contract? I think you need to 'lay down the rules' or suggest you will find someone else more dependable. Remind them ponies need caring for 2 x day 365 days a year!

Nah to be serious, i would be looking for another loaner, my sharer does 2-3times a week as she works shifts but it does not affect me,

Its not fair on you, she is putting her life first before the horse and at the end of the day if you are going to make a commitment to someone you need to stick to it (especially with horses), and well she is not doing that,

i would tell her that you cannot go on like this and that you dont want her sharing your horse no longer and look for a sharer, preferably through a freind or something like that?
or get a reference from someone two, that way you will hopefully get a much better and reliable sharer

just back from yard loaner caught up with friends and cant make it, no contract however will look for another loaner and make sure I have contract in my hand..I wonder if I can put in it that even if they dont turn up they still have to pay costs..
 
If I had to cancel at short notice on a day I was supposed to muck out (w/ends, as share horsey is on 5/day livery) I'd certianly expect to contact the yard myself (after speaking to owner who is fab and actually likes mucking out!) and pay the money for them to do it.

We're very flexible on days (suits both of us) and I just pay a regular amount each week by standing order. I don't pay 'per ride'. I think that is just easier all round when neither of us can guarantee certain days every week.

Sharing isn't just about the horse/rider combo it is about the yard, the lifestyles and finances etc suiting everyone too. No harm in having a quiet word and then getting someone more suited to your situation if it doesn't work out.

Just state in contract that they are doing (eg) x days a week for £xx payable in advance on 1st of the month.

That's what we do, then if they dont do a day for whatever reson, they've paid already. Might make them likely to be commited and dependable!
 
Had a loaner that payed nothing as she was also doing me a favour exercising my horse as i didnt have time. She cancelled twice and i told her to bog off as i needed someone reliable
 
I cant understand why these people dont turn up...I have been a sharer/loaner in the past when I couldnt have had a horse full-time and it helped out the owners ( one was heavily pregnant).

Even if I didnt ride...I still went as arranged on my days to muck out/bring in etc etc.

Well out of order if you ask me...perhaps this is why they don't have their own horses...too much like hard work.
