I know there's a lot of horror stories, but there's also a whole lot of happy ones!

I'm not sure if you'll find a taker at your own yard, though? All the loaners I know have generally got their own horses and want something for the kids, but don't want to move yards.

Ask for email updates every few weeks, that way, you'll have a vague idea if something is wrong, and you can pop up and visit.

well im not really goin2allow her off my yard a friend loans her horse out from her own yard n it works well, i jus fort it may give a talent teenager whos family may not be able to afford the complete cost of owning a horse a chance to have a gd horse with top facilities to use

I used to loan a horse that stayed at its own yard. It was a good arrangement because he was completely settled and the original ownwer was on hand to make all the decisions, I just got to ride him and look after him without the responsibility.

You haven't said where you live, I loaned Gypsy while I was at University and they had other people at that yard with similar arrangements. It worked really well for students who couldn't afford their own horse while at uni but were experienced and capable riders. I would try advertising at a local college/uni Riding Club

Get them to sign a loan agreement, the one off the BHS website is the best. You can arrange the terms such as when she can ride, whose to pay what (inc insurance) and when they can ride. I have loaned a lot of horses but have always kept them at my own yard (why would I pay livery and petrol when I have my own stables?) but for someone who didn't it sounds like a great oppotunity.
