Loaning contract

I have a horse up for loan and I think a girl who is really interested. The details still need worked out but I just want to make sure that I am getting all bases covered.

The girl is only 16 so I am assuming a parent (as the adult) must sign the loan contract?(will use BHS template)

I have disclosed absolutely everything that I can think of including the fact he can put an odd buck in if excited. Should this also be written into the contract?

I have requested that they must orgnaise riders insurance. How do I protect myself if she were to be injured in a fall etc?

Also what happens re vet fees - it looks like they may only want to loan 5 days a week. Which is fine but who then covers vet fees?

I am not good at relinquishing control so I am generally feeling pretty nervous about the whole thing. I have only seen her ride once so its difficult to know her capability.

Any words of wisdom?

As a loaner, we used the BHS contract and with the owner we made sure everything we wanted to specify was covered. If you use the BHS contract as your template, you should be OK. I have actually bought the horse now, but I just looked at the contract and it does indemnify you but you should put in his 'quirks'. Good luck

@05jackd Just seen the 5 days/week. I don't think you can expect the loaner to cover all the costs as you would a full loan so specify who pays for what is more complicated - but the BHS agreement would still work for you

make sure your horse has the correct insurance/add-ons for covering other riders and to what extent. also public liability.
for your loaners own insurance, i'd really recommend personal accident is covered/included.

Thank you I have been having a look through and it is very detailed but we can easily customise for what we need. I am happy that the vet bills should be my responsibility.

As the owner of the horse you should continue to insure the horse so that you know it is definately insured.
Also ask to see proof of address of the loaner and a copy of their passport/driving licence so that you know exactly who you are dealing with.
