We need to look for a loaner for our adored little lighweight cob, 'cos my daughter is moving to London for her job, but as he's our baby, and we have had him since 3 (he's now 13) we really don't want to sell him ....

My daughter is feeling very worried and guilty about the decision, and is so anxious that we won't be able to find anyone suitable/"who will love him enough" ... I'd love to hear from people on the forum who have have successful experiences of loaning, and what you did to try and make it work for you and your horsey? We want to try and loan him from our present stables, so I know we are limiting the pool a bit. Did you advertise/find people through word of mouth? What safeguards did you put in place? (And, by the way, if you'd like to know more about our lovely chap who is near Haywards Heath in Sussex, PM me!)

I have loaned my pony Chess out before and hope to again- I have always been very lucky and have had lovely people loaning her.
I am very very picky about who I even let come and see her, and then even more picky about where she goes and what the person is like- it makes it a very slow process but to me the most important thing is that she is going to be happy. I have always had the best response from Horsequest.
I always have a very precise loan agreement so everybody knows where they stand (there is quite a good one on the BHS site).
Hope that helps
