Loaning out a veteran?

The veteran horse society would prob be the best place to look. Just make sure you do a good/comprehensive loan agreement and do regular checks.

My friend and I have taken on veterans before. My second horse was in his 20's so there are people out there xx

How old is she? We actively looked for older ponies to buy and/or loan as we value experience.I've used the Pony Club classifieds and Preloved and found them both pretty good.

Try putting an ad in your local tack shops. Be very careful to ensure that whoever loans her doesn't overdo her, she may be fit for her age but she is still elderly, and make sure she is near enough home to be checked regularly.

She sounds a lovely mare and I am sure you will find suitable person.

Yes they do. I have a 20+ year old mare that I've had on loan since Jan, and she has arthritis. But she is perfect for what I want to do (get my confidence back) and will hopefully be staying with me now.

However it did help that I knew her owner and have known the horse for 8 years. You might have to advertise more and wait a little longer but people do loan them, especially as she has nothing wring with her :)

I have a 30 year old on loan (although I suspect they will never want him back) , I wanted a companion for my cob as I rent a field , something quiet that I could handle easily, would happily stay in the field while I ride. He Is everything I wanted and I love him to pieces.
He was in a terrible state when he came to me and he is now happy as larry and will live out the rest of his days stuffing his face and pottering around the field :)
I wouldn't hesitate to have another oldie :)

Would you like another one? :p hehe

Don't see it as a problem, I have just advertised the 20yo that I have been loaning (owner is a good friend so I said I would deal with all the advertising/viewings for her). As long as people are honest I never see it as a problem as long as you keep tabs etc

I have loaned out my oldie as at the minute Im not in a stable job so didnt want to have to make hard decisions based on lack of money.

Hes a 21yr old Welsh D x and hes on loan to a lady who just wants to plod about and have some fun and hes certainly up for that :D

There are people out there lookig for an older horse. You local equestrian school might appreciate her for their students which is another route to go down, they take very good care of the horses :)

My 20yo is out on loan at the moment, and with his arthritis is only suitable for very light schooling and hacking. His loaner adores him and luckily doesn't mind his reduced capabilities, she even covers the cost of his arthritis supplements etc. If yours can be ridden and from the sounds of it doesn't act like a real 'oldie' than I'd imagine you'd have lots of interest!
