I attended my first ever gymkhana today, as a visitor, rather than a competitor. It was just a little local show at Congresbury not far from Bristol and it was quite an education.
There were a lot of very well turned out horses and ponies and one of the nicest was a beautiful 2 year old chestnut TB gelding who has got to be one of the friendliest and most chilled out horses I have ever met. He was also at least 16.2 HH!
We saw a few folk that my OH knew and watched both some superb and some dreadful displays of horsemanship, including a girl who thought it was good technique to give her NF pony a belt with her stick before every jump. More worrying because she was in the clear round jumping and going over about 1' 6" at most!
There were a few pot hunters, but for the most part people were just having fun and there really were a few times where you could see a real bond and partnership between horse and rider.
My OH and I had a really enjoyable time and were still able to have a nice hack out late this afternoon. Made for a very laid back and horsey Sunday
