Just curious, I've had Vale View BD on in the background today (via Horse & Country) and very much enjoying observing the variations/blips/successes in each competition. But does *everyone* in Melton Mowbray own a piebald middleweight cob/Warmblood x? I've glimpsed one splashed red roan so far to vary the cohort, but it's quite remarkable. The warm-up area must look like 101 Dalmatians (knowing and loving many a middleweight piebald myself).

I don’t know about middleweight piebalds but about 25 years back there was a striking roan Welsh stallion at stud down here and for years afterwards, the M and M lineups were full of pink coloured ponies!

I doubt local stallions have as much of an influence now but I wonder if someone is buying related youngsters, producing and selling them on as RC all rounders?

Not sure what’s on today - possibly veteran associate champs or CHAPs. It’s been the ROR/TB associates as well so 95% bays those days.

CHAPS - I paid most attention to the elementary, but the prelims are in now and a sweet dark skewbald has just varied the palette!

My distracted viewing is hardly a thorough survey but what struck me was the subtle variation in types too, so maybe *some* are related, but...

I looked at the results and naughtily my friends and I were taking the piss. Saying next year we will buy a lusitano to do walk and trot on as only one in the class. Not really a championship but BD has growing membership for this reason. They give shite prizes but it’s all about the sash. As I have joked BD has a championship ratio of sashes of 10:1 vs BE who are the stingiest worst organisation for championships.

I hope the sashes are also monochrome. Perhaps polka-dots. Been holding out for a tri-coloured, but no dice.

I take my generalisation (slightly) back, having celebrated two chestnut skewbalds and a slightly darker PBA. I really should be doing something else, I think the B&W had me hypnotised.
