We have a little mare at work who's patella has started to lock.
Am I right in not asking her to move when it has locked? It can take a while to click unlocked.
It isn't easier to muck her out as she likes to stand in the middle with her head in the wheelbarrow.

When she has locked up you should try pushing her back to release it. Lots of hill work and long slow canters are good for locking stifle. The fitter she is and stronger her muscles are , the condition can almost disappear.

Great thanks. She is only 4 and is pretty weak so hopefully with a bit of work she'll strengthen up and it will go.

I had a horse with it, we used to clap as pushing back did not really work but if she jumped slightly it went back in, With fitness I never had another issue but she was in constant work and was advised untill she was older not to give her coplete time off. Hill work definatly brilliant but introduce gradually as if you do lots initally the muscle may not cope wiith keeping it in. PM if you want more details of what it was like
