I have a yearling colt with a locking stifle joint. It happens sometimes after a night in the stable.I know it is possible to operate but that seems a bit drastic. Is he likely to outgrow the problem?
my shetland had this when i first got him.if he had been in he used to come out the stable dragging his leg behind.he was 2 when we got him,it probably happened no more than a dozen times over the following few months. he kind of grew out of it very gradually and i always took him for walks which i think helps to strenghten.
here he is a couple of weeks ago.
he has never been affected by it in any way since and he will be 23 in may.
Don't worry. When I bought my horse (he was 3) the first morning he came out of the stable and his leg locked. It really scared me. He could have been returned to the dealer, but decided to take a chance on him. 4 years on he is fine. Plenty of exercise. Told by vet as much hill work as possible.
