I am desperately trying to find somewhere that offers riding lessons for established riders who specialise inal showing or dressage - I.e. not your average riding school. I’ve been riding for years and years and have competed my own coloured qualifying for royal international numerous times and having success at lots of county shows over the years, CHAPs etc.

However my horse is 18 now and based in Manchester with my mum. I’ve moved towards London I and I am considering buying my next horse. Before this though I really want to take my riding up a notch and learn how to really show a horse to it’s top potential, including how to get the best from a horse at home, ringctaft etc etc. To be honest I feel a bit rusty and I want to really push myself to be the best rider I can be.

Obviously I don’t have my own horse to bring for lessons with him being based up north so I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere take that teaches riders to improve their skills on one or their own horses/ ponies (I’m a slim 5ft7).

When I wanted to feel what it was like to ride big warmblood dressage horses, I went to Oldencraig Dressage Centre. I dont know if they still do riding lessons. But it was lovely. The horses knew all the dressage steps - but in the end I decided against such big horses and returned to a favourite Connie who could only do hacking.

I think Oldencraig has just been sold hasn’t it? Not sure but I think I saw an article about it.

If you fancy learning on Iberian horses, Lomond school of riding near Gatwick is fab.

I don’t think there are many others near London with the level of schoolmaster you’re looking for tbh, so you may want to consider doing the odd intensive day or weekend somewhere like Talland near Cirencester.

Difficult one. I don't think any really apart from talland. There is wellington and quob but don't think these have the quality of horses you are looking for. Once you get a horse lots of decent trainers in that area- rob waine is great.

Oldencraig is gone now.
QPR lusitanos in Sussex will teach you the ropes from a dressage perspective.
Showing wise you've got Katie Jerram who is Essex way so may be accessible depending on where in London you are.
